    Students learn how to interpret their sketches to then make better selections of typeface and software to use once moving into a digital environment.

Type Challenge Tools
Create a new document in Illustrator

Go to FILE> NEW

Create 3 x 3 inches square / 2 artboards

  • ARTBOARD 1 – Use the word: building (lowercase)
  • We will create an outline and slightly move some points
  • ARTBOARD 2 – Use the word: broken (upper or lower case)
  • We will create an outline and use the pathfinder tool to divide parts of the letterform
  • Save Illustrator file
  • Export as a JPG

Assignment (activity 6 pts)

Scavenger Hunt.
Look for three examples of typography in brands like Cereal Boxes, Cookies Candy Bars.

Go to your Dashboard and create a new post:

Select categories (under the GEAR>Document>categories>STUDENT POST and STUDENT POST TYPE SCAVENGER HUNT)

Add title: LAST name Scavenger Hunt:Typeface Food Brand

Go to the small plus sign and select Gallery

Then add your photos. MAKE sure photos are small (no more than 300px)

Always write a caption with your comments:

Pay attention at the arrangement of type

Graphic Assignments are always due the day before class at 11:30 pm, and must be placed in class drive (DROPBOX Spring 23) unless indicated otherwise. Assignments uploaded during class on the day that they are due are marked as late.

Participation Activities (Scavenger Hunts, Type Talks and Type Challenges) are due during class or the day before class at 11:30 pm if indicated by the instructor.
