Lecture

Homework

Reading:

  • A Designer’s Research Manual:
    • Research Summary and Creative Briefs (p120-133)

Breakout Activities

Work on the breakout activities list below to help build your design research and process.

  • Journey Maps (MIRO LINK) ( Design Kit Link)
Experiences follow universal patterns, they have a beginning, a middle, and an end, like a narrative arc. They can be described in simple terms such as “before,” “during,” and “after.” Using these temporal prompts, you can organize observations and research findings around a person’s experience.
  • Create a Concept
Create a concept and use the creative brief (p126-130) as a guide, and add it to Process Book (basically, a What, Who, and How). What are some struggles?

Read Prof Davis’s article about crafting a creative brief, can it help with your outline?

Clarify your problem and share it in class:

I want to________________________________

Because it will _________________________

And change _____________________________

For ______________________________________

This IS ALL part of your research process! and goes into your process book.

There are 8 Breakout exercises so far but there will be 10 THAT need to be included in your process book. They are placed in the semester to build better research understanding and progression of our concept/ ideas.
