My reflection

After I done this twelve word, I reflected back I feel like I learn a lot of thing, this my first time doing this kind of work, it really helpul, it help me to understand each word how to use it on the sentence from the test or article, first you read the test word by word and then  to find out which word I really don’t know after that I read the whole sentence from the word I don’t understand again and again, after I still don’t get the word , I will considered this is my word of the week, then I got to William-Webster to search the meaning of the word, and then read it, after I get the meaning I will try to use it on the sentence that I didn’t understand, spent a little bit of time from me and figure the meaning of the word in this sentence, after I really don’t know what it meaning I will go to William-Webster again and read it again, after the second tried, I always  will get the idea what the word of the week mean. This homework help me to improve my english vocabulary, I really learn a lot of vocabulary, not only on this 12 vocabulary, far more than that. I will try to keep use this method of learning to improve my vocabulary, so I can know more vocabulary than before. Also I always go to see my classmate vocabulary and then see there vocabulary word , then learn it from them, which is really helpful.

According to a dictionary Marriam-Webster the word equitable mean “ dealing fairly and equally with all concerned”

Based on the article we learn in the class”How to Raise a Feminist Son” by Claire Cain Miller, “If we want to create  an equitable society, one in which everyone can thrive, we need to give boy more choice”.

After I knew the meaning equitable it help me to understand the whole sentence which mean tif we want out society to be equal we need to gave boy more freedom, and let them do the thing they want to.

Stoic

According to the dictionary William Webster the word stoic mean”One apparently or professedly indiffirent to pleasure or pain”

This word appear in the article that we learn “What Feminists Can Do For Boys” By Jessica Valenti, “Feminist  ideas can help men – be it the rejection of expectations that men be strong and stoic or ending the silence around male of sexual violence.”

After I understood the meaning of stoic, I will be able to understand the meaning of the sentence, which mean Female can help men be against the strong and pain that men have and to end the sexual violence.

Stumbling

Stumbling(Verb)

According to the dictionary Marriam-Webster the word stumblimg mean”To fall into sin or waywardness.”

Based on the last lecture, ”Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston we read, ” she nearly fell upon the box in her stumbling.”

In the  “A Jury of Her Peers” by  Susan Glaspell, “” “How  did she look?” he county attorney was inquiring. “well,” said Hale,”she look–queer.” ”

After I knew the meaning of queer, I will be able understand the sentence, that someone asking how she look, then Hale response back and she look like same sex type of person.

Oriented

According to the dictionary Webster-Marriam the word Oriented mean” intellectually, emotionally, or functionally directed”.

In the article “Teaching Men To Be Emotionally Honest” by Andrew reiner,“Boys were also more socially oriented than girls,” the report said.

After this quote The I know the word oriented meaning,it let me know the meaning of whole sentence which boys are more emotionally than a girl, shows that boy in this society will most likely want to express their own emtion more than girl does. This sentence encourage boy to express their emotion.

Fascinated

accoding to the dictionary Marriam Webster, the word fascinated mean”To command the interest of”.

This word is appear in the article”The boys at back”by Christina Hoff Sommers, In the quote”The student are kept so budy and fascinated with what they are doing that they have neither the time nor the desire antics”.

Afte I understand the word fascinated, I will be able to understand this sentence clearly which mean the student is interest in something that they don’t even have the time to do it, and don’t have the emotion to do it.

In last week we just learn the article”What our son learn from donal Trump” By Clarie Cain Miller,In one of the quote said”We have evidence that if you shift the discourse around boys and give them the cultural support they need to solve problems with strategies other than aggression and to express their feelings without being mocked, they respond just like any human being”.

In this quote after I search the meaning “mock”. Now get me more understanding, the sectence is telling us dont laghing on the male when they expressing their feeling.The word mock in here mean dont make it look like hilarious is some male expressing their feeling, and gave them cultural support so with can change the meaning of masculinity.

In class we learn the article”The Boys Are Not All Right”by Michael Ian Black, one part of the article said”Boys, though, have been left behind. No commensurate movement has emerged to help them navigate toward a full expression gender “.

After this quote I start to understand what the word commensurate mean in this sentence, it mean there no more movement to help them have a full expression, and to support to make them move forward, which always left behind..

Skepticism

According to the dictionary “Marrian Webster” the word Skepticism mean “an attitude of doubt or a disposition to incredulity either in general or toward a particular object”.

In the class we learn an article”A Master’s Degree in … Masculinity?” byJessica Bennet. In a quote “Like many new fields, masculinities  studies brings with it varying degrees of skepticism”.

After I searched the mean of the word skepticism, I will be able to know that the quote telling us, is studying of masculinity will let us have a lot of doubt on it, which left us a lot of question about what is masculinty, how masculinity acting in this word, how is different from girl, and this is also a new field so we find the best way to explain what is masculinity is.
