Breath Eyes Memory Chap 28-End

I really enjoy this book out of the others I feel that this book has alot of foreshadowing scenes which leads to several plots. Going towards the end of the book i kind of knew that Sophie’s mother was going to commit suicide. She gave ideas as in how she wanted her grave set up and where she wanted it placed. The next amazing part I found out that after sophie has gotten older she goes back to New York and re bonded with her mom. I felt like that moment was what her mom wanted from the beginning. Then going back to the very end i feel like Sophie can finally move on with her life as an adult and she will always remember her mother, from the experience and what she was taught. I also feel that she would have a few regrets wishing whats she could have done to prevent her mothers death.

Breath Eyes Memory Chapters 20-27

In chapters 20-27 I noticed that Sophie starts to look more into her family. For example she looks more into her past of how her mom grew up and how her dad was dressed in a way you cant identify him. So to conclude that statement Sophie’s father was a dead beat dad. Next her mother appears to her after two years of hiding from her. When the both reunite, they both feel tension among one another. Then Sophie’s grandmother went and told her how it cursed the family to know that mother daughter can’t be enemies from each other for too long.

Breath Eyes Memory Chapter 13-19

From reading past when Sophie decided to leave her mom and get married a lot has changed. She goes back to Haiti and reunites with Tante Atie and her grandmother. It’s shocking that time has moved so quickly and she even has a 10 month daughter and her auntie and grandmother almost did not recognized her. But I found the reading interesting how Sophia leaves New York and got married, have a daughter and starts living like an adult. Also having that said she notices that her grandmother does not view Tante Atie the same after the left and came back from Croix-des-Rosets. Sophia also goes to her grandmother for marital advice of how to please her husband. Plus she is also feeling bad about her body because of how her mother tested her, she is disgusted of herself and feels like she should not be around anyone even her husband.

Breath, Eyes Memory Chapter 9-12

So in Chapters nine through twelve shows that Sophia met a guy that is almost as old as her mom and he plays the saxophone. She ends up falling in love with him, and in the end she failed her mom’s test and her mom told her to leave and see what the boy could do for you. Very shocking she runs away from home and she runs to Joseph’s house and tells him that she is ready, she wants to get married. Having that said I found this chapter like a turning point of the novel because when Sophia moves with her mom in New York she tell us how she love her very much and she will stay in school and become a doctor. But once she meets Joseph he changes her mindset of becoming a doctor and tells her be what you want to be, what you enjoy or what’s your passion.

Breath Eyes Memory Chapter 5-8

In chapter five through eight Sophia pretty much re-unites with her mother and the way that Tante Atie  explained how her mother looked she was surprised she did not resemble her. Now the part that stood out to me was when Sophia reached New York. She felt completely out of place. She did not know her mom worked very hard and live in a poor area. Even her car was old and falling apart. I found this section about Sophia’s experience for the first reactions with her mom interesting because she pictured her mom living well, New York the greatest place as she was told and the experience the American people. I also like the fact that her mother will do all she can to stick by her side and will not let her go for any reason. She wants her to have the life Tante Atie and herself never experienced.

Breath Eyes Memory, Chapters 1-4

So in the novel Breath Eyes Memory speaks about a young girl named Sophie is being taken care of by Tante Atie which is her aunt. I found one part interesting which was that in the previous novels in the beginning the main characters lose someone that’s really close to them. So in this novel in the very beginning you see that Tante Atie talks about how her grandfather passed away. Then you would notice that in this novel’s  story has a more of a kind of a calm beginning excluding the death of her grandfather.

Chapters 12–> End

When I continued reading the book I was very surprised that Tituba said she was pregnant again. I felt very deeply for her, because at that point I knew things would end up going down hill. Then she met Iphighene, I felt that he played a role of good and bad. He was good because he respected and listened to Tituba. Then when she wounded her foot he came to her rescue. Then I felt he played a bad role because he gave Tituba the idea of having all the slaves revolt agaist their masters. Even one day away from the final assault they both ended up having sex although Tituba mention after she felt really horrible after the whole scene how Iphigene could have been her son. But in the end I think Tituba seen this path coming and she felt that it was the best way to escape the pain and the false lies that everyone was saying about her.

Tituba End Chap 12 Part II

The most interesting thing I found out that in the chapters that Tituba had feelings for Benjamin Cohen d’ Azevedo he was her master at one point then he caught feeling for her as well. Even though she used her powers to bring back her masters wife and children, I found that really nice of her to do. I think Benjamin was nice to grant her freedom and return her back to Barbados. Even though he wanted Tituba to use her powers  to prevent his men from getting sick. Then later on in the story Tituba finds out that she is pregnant by Benjamin when he is long gone.
