Sophie is becoming accustomed to the role of a wife while her mother on the other hand is becoming more and more mentally unstable. Her mother struggles with the pregnancy she starts seeing the rapist everywhere. She believes that she hears the baby is talking to her insulting her calling her names. She wants to have an abortion but was advised to give it 24 hours. Her mom sees the baby as evil and her rapist has so much power over her because he doesn’t have a face therefore she “sees” him everywhere. She believes her rapist left a piece of him inside of her and if she has the baby then there will be an evil inside of it. Her mother ultimately takes her own life attacking herself her child and her rapist. Both of there women saw their bodies as prisons and in their own way tried to free themselves from it.

As you keep reading you see more problems rising. Sophie left Joseph and he has no clue where she is. Neither does her mom for all her mother knows Sophie is dead. When Sophie’s grandmother hears this message you can tell she’s someone surprised and fed up with the fact that Sophie and her mom still don’t communicate. Later on another part stood out to me the most was when auti and Sophie were siting talking about society and men in general. It sounds auti is tired of the traditional role of a female in society . She just thinks all they are good for is to cook clean and please men because that’s what society sees. I feel like this is why she left her husband she was sick of playing this traditional role so she went to a place where she didn’t have too. She went home so she can be herself.

In part three Sophie goes back to Haiti and stays with her aunt and grandmother. You can see how much she has grown because of the way she loves and cares for her child. She also came on her little adventure alone leaving her husband in New York showing she’s capable of being on her own. She can take care of her self. One part that stood out to me was when they were at the market and Sophie got to see the things that go on. Louise started asking if they would buy her pig. This part stood out to me because when ever you’re in a third world country or birth country they natives can tell you’re an outsider and they always tend to bother you. Often time treating you really good because they are hoping for something else in return like when Louise gave Sophie the drink she said I know you’ll pay me later. There’s also a scene that’s shows how dangerous these countries are and you have to look out for yourself and be careful. The coal vendor was getting beaten and Sophie’s grandmother made a remark asking if she wanted to be next. Overall this part of the book showed us how Sophie matured and how Haiti

What really stands out to me is Sophie herself she’s a very relatable character. She’s going through the motions of a normal teenager. As far as college goes I can relate to her I don’t like my college it makes me feel like I’m still in high school. As far as relationship goes Sophie’s moms response is a very typical response for a mother or a teenage girl. I feel bad that Sophie doesn’t have an adult figure that she can talk too about a relationship. Her mother doesn’t approve of it and in my opinion wouldn’t want to hear it. But then again it’s difficult for teenagers and a parent to talk about these things sometimes.i hope to see them grow an become closer and not have so many secrets. Sophie and her mother need to first work out their relationship and become comfortable with each other and the wants of each other in order for Sophie to be in a relationship her mother approves of

The part that stood out to me the most was when sophies mom tells her that she is going to become a doctor and not a secretary. her mother took didn’t really care for what Sophie wanted (in my opinion)but i could understand why. her mother also tells her to stay in school. Sophie mom is just looking out for her, she wants her daughter to be the best she possible could be. just like any other parent would want. my parents always pushed me and wanted me to gets A’s to them anything under a 90 was unacceptable. Sophie may feel like her mom is being unfair but someday she will see why her mother is as hard on her as she is. being a secretary is okay but her mom wanted more from her she wanted Sophie to be on top and not just like everyone else in the world.

the part that stood out to me the most even thought it was in the beginning of the book was when Sophie is having a conversation with her aunt. Sophie isn’t satisfied with her aunt at this time because she never goes to school when they have a group reading. her aunt explains that she doesn’t attend because she doesn’t know how to read and she doesn’t want a group of children to teach her. She never head time to go to school and she only knew to work cook clean and cutting cane. i can relate to this because where im from the only thing to do was cut cane and that all my grandfather did. my father would have been following in his footsteps but instead chose to move to the united states in order for my sister and i as well as himself to get a better education.

The moments where tituba talks about death and not escaping it stood out to me. In a way it foreshadowed her death in the end of the story. Tituba learning she can not escape death, or “close the door on death” didn’t stop her from searching for a way to do so. In my opinion she was afraid of dying because she was trying to find a way to make Christopher Imortal. Another way she foreshadows her deaths are through her memories or hallucination(when she sees the faces of her past). The night she was condemned to her death she had seen the faces of people who was bad or evil. She in a way couldn’t escape her past and it was all catching up to her. Even the way she was killed she had escaped it once but not the second time. In the end she becomes okay with her death she was going to a better place where she can be with the people she loves

Everyone tituba is close too either leaves her or dies. Benjamin was a Jewish man who was wealthy. His only use to tituba was to buy her and then sell her to someone in Barbados so she would be home. In a way he was her ticket home. As time goes on tituba and Benjamin become closer and closer. This all starts when she reunites him with his dead wife. Tituba wanted to help him and really hoped that by doing this he would let her go and have her freedom . That wasn’t the case After that Benjamin didn’t wanted her by his side and they developed a relationship where they would end up sleeping together. the house Benjamin lived in was burned down and his 9 children died, so he decided it was time to leave Salem. He believed it was all because he didn’t let tituba have her freedom that’s why everything was happening. So Benjamin set off to road island and tituba was once again left alone. He bought her passage to Barbados but she didn’t want to leave him. She wanted to be with him. It was an unexpected relationship but in the end tituba always gets left alone.

Tituba post#7

There wasn’t a part that stood out to me, but a character. Hester stood out to me the most. In the few chapters she was alive she had a huge impact on tituba. Hester was a feminist and she rubbed off on tituba because when John Indian came to meet her she starts to question whether or not he cared for her well being. John Indian looked healthy and clean while tituba was suffering. Soon after when Hester takes her own life tituba contemplates whether or not she should follow Hester. Tituba was very hurt by the death of Hester and I believe this will cause tituba to change and also become a feminist in order to defend herself. You can see how hesters death took a toll on tituba when she goes on her little rant about getting revenge and wanting to join Hester. In a place where all tituba knew was suffering she found a friend in a sort. A women who you’d believe was strong but instead took her own life.

the moment in the text that stood out to me was in chapter 10 page 72-73. This is when tibuta was being accused of witch craft and being accused of indulging games with the devil. The moment tibuta was accused of witch craft goodwife Paris forgot all about the good tibuta did for her by getting her better when she was ill. Tibita in my opinion was trying to hold her composure and not let this accusation make her do something she’ll regret. Earlier in the book when she was heard the word witch she had chased the children out the house. Just because  someone knows something about healing in order to help others to get better, but I believe because she was a slave and knew of such she was labeled. I also believe that Betsy was put up to this by someone else in the town because her and tibuta were close and for her to suddenly do this and have everyone turn against tibuta is strange.
