Growing Brooklyn

During my visit to the Brooklyn Historical Society, I was a little doubtful of how it would go. I was brought to a rude awakening when I saw the beautifully built library shadowing over Pierrepont St. Hearing the introduction speech and seeing these old pieces of work around me made me suddenly very interested in Brooklyn history. When we got split up into groups, I was put with the maps group. We were analyzing three different maps of the same general area. We looked at a fire insurance company map of 1908 and compared it to a similar one of 1874 and 2011. As a group we split up the similarities/differences and thought about why this happened. It was actually pretty cool and I am definitely excited to revisit soon.

One Response to Growing Brooklyn

  1. On one hand, the BHS can be very interesting and fun if you enjoy history. On the other hand, if you have no taste for historical things, you probably won’t enjoy the visit. I also agree that the library is beautifully built.
