First Day of Training!

As I always do, I arrived way too early than I needed. I passed the time by battling down my anxiousness and wondering what I was going to do today. I learned by 9:01am that I didn’t have much to worry about! Natalie and William were super kind and broke everything down that Lu and I would be doing for the next week and a half.

The first “project” was replicating an old poster as close as we possibly can. The catch: the file was riddled with different type of errors that we had to keep an eye out for. This one was fun since typos grind my gears. I had the most fun attempting to replicate logos that were actually provided for me in the given folders… everyone got a good laugh at that!

What I found most difficult was mainly in how I think. After some research I tend to have a few ideas on what I would like to work with but once I start giving them life in Illustrator or InDesign, I never feel they are any good. Usually a taking a step away from what I’m working on helps.

As is usual with the first day and with my personality in general, I come off shy at first meeting. But any time we needed something Lu and I had no problem asking the other about it. I’m sure that by the end of the training we’ll be much more comfortable around each other.

  1. Julie there is nothing wrong with coming early, it shows that you care and have a good sense of time management. You did a great job on the replication project, I’m glad you find it fun to spot out the mistakes on the poster and correcting them. We feel that this would be a good exercise to practice, devil is in the detail, you can never be too careful.

    • Thank you for that! I now see arriving early for this has its benefits. And thank you yes the replication project was pretty fun. This type of project was a great way to start the training off with.

  2. I believe you did great on your first day and hope it was an enjoyable learning experience working within the office! It is great to know that we can count on you when it comes to proofreading as that it such an important job alongside designing the poster. We always want to make sure the information is always correct. I’d also like to add that getting a second opinion never hurts and can possibly be beneficial to helping you solve some of your design problems. Speaking from experience of doing it myself, sometimes we can get too attached to a concept or idea and can use an external perspective.
