Achievements

I was selected to present at the Greater New York Dental Meeting 2019 on the association between Obesity/BMI and Periodontal Disease – November 2019

I conducted research on the link between Obesity/BMI and Periodontal Disease and I was chosen to present this topic at the 2018 GNYDM. This opportunity provided me with in-depth knowledge on one of the fastest growing diseases faced by millions of Americans and my area of study, periodontal disease. I gained knowledge on the biological connection between these two co-morbidities and it gave me an understanding of the importance of nutrition and oral health.

Outreach presentation at Bunny Hill Preschool – March 2019

As part of a group, I enhanced my professional skills development with the pediatric population. It was my role to educate 3 year old pre-schoolers and to introduce them to the dental health team. This community service project broadened my skills as a clinician and gave me experience of working with children.

Head Start Varnish Program – May 2019

As a class, we provided oral health screenings and applied fluoride varnish to students of a Brooklyn Head Start Program. This experience further enhanced my clinical skills as I was working as a clinician to provide preventative care in the public health setting.
