May 8th, 2024 “Poster Session Room Assignments” Please see which room you are scheduled to be at this link below: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2023-sp2024/culmination-project-poster-session-rooms-sp-2024/ There will be an easel for each poster waiting for you. After you print out your poster, you need to glue it on to a board. You need to supply a board on your own. You can print out your poster in black and white for free in a computer lab. If you prefer a color poster, please go to a copy store. If you wish to look at some of the sample posters from the past, please visit V203, and ask Margaret for some assistance. See you tomorrow! ………… May 6th, 2024 Part 2 Poster Session & Presentation Some of you have asked how the poster session is different from the presentation. They are fundamentally different though the subject matter, which is your project, is the same. During the poster session, it will be very interactive that you speak, and your visitors may ask questions right away. You can take time to talk about your project. Some of you would be also demonstrating in addition to discuss what is on your poster. On the other hand, when you present in our classroom, first, you speak for 10 minutes. It is not a long time to discuss your semester long project. Therefore, it has to be precise, compact, and also detailed. You have to structure the 10 min. of time very wisely. After that, there will be Q & A with your audience members to finally ask you questions or share their thoughts with you. There will be your classmates and some of the faculty members in the audience. When you give a presentation professionally in the future, the crowd might be much bigger, but the structure might be similar to your student presentation. OpenLab is resourceful. During the pandemic, especially, we all met via zoom, and therefore we were able to record many of the presentations. These were selected presentations, and therefore many of them are very good. I’m sure you can find some good examples as you prepare for your presentation: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2023-sp2024/past-selected-presentation-videos/ Best …………….. May 6th, 2024 Hello. Once again, this is the link of the schedule for the upcoming Culmination Project related events and beyond: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bzIKNy7iqaXBlZyBRCu_oeA6580OgELr/edit#gid=1923472257 Some new info. will be still added such as the room assignment for the poster session, and so stay tuned. Please know that the poster session will begin at 1 pm (Thursday, May 9th). The set up time will be between 12:30 pm and 1 pm. All the best! …………………. May 5th, 2024 ENT 4499 Students, Hope you are well. Some of your submitted tech requests for the poster session and presentation. We still need to determine what is possible and what it not. Please know that this is the first time the poster session is NOT taking place at the theatre. Instead, it will be in different rooms on the first floor of Voorhees, 103A, 119, and 120. These is some general info. for the final weeks of Culmination Project. Poster Session in various rooms on the 1st fl.
  • There will be easels. You just need to bring your poster.
  • You can print out your poster (PDF) in room V217. It is a black & white printer, not colors. You should not try to do the printing at the last minute like the day before the poster session. The printer could break down. Let’s think professionally: The malfunctioning of printer is not an excuse for your poster to be missing at the time of poster session. There are copy stores in town. Plan ahead always.
Presentation at V321
  • Please don’t bring your poster to your presentation. The poster session is a separate event from your presentation.
  • You need to rehearse, so that your presentation will be 10 minutes long. Then, we will spend 5 min. for Q & A. There will be more people/faculty to observe your presentation. You are expected to present your semester long project.
  • For your individual presentation, please make sure to bring your materials on your own USB stick. There is no time to download them on to the instructor’s computer. First, you would have to authenticate your e-mail address (most commonly Gmail address). Let’s not waste time.
  • This is especially for game students: Even if you bring your laptop, there is no guarantee that you can connect it successfully to the projector. So, be prepared to show a “video recording” of your game.
ePortfolio Thank you! ………. May 2nd, 2024 Hope you are well! Now, you should be finalizing your project. Make sure to meet with your mentor before your final presentation. You also need to complete your ePortfolio very soon. Do not miss any requirements such as the reports and “reflection”. Please refer to “Submission Requirements”: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2023-sp2024/culmination-project-submission-requirements/ Now, you can find the schedule for the weeks of 14 and 15 here. You can find the presentation, poster session schedule, and beyond: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bzIKNy7iqaXBlZyBRCu_oeA6580OgELr/edit?pli=1#gid=1923472257 All the best! ………………….. February 14th, 2024 (Part 2) Re: ePortfolio! All students need to upload all of their materials within their own ePortfolio. The materials are project proposal, budget, calendar, progress reports, reflection, presentation slide, and so on. Please do not upload your items anywhere else such as where the faculty make announcements for everyone. Please follow the instructions on how to make ePortfolio: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/pvasquez-eportfolio/ Then, within your ePortfolio, you could create a page named “Culmination Project”. Need help on OpenLab/ePortfolio? Please contact the OpenLab staff. They will reply within 24 hours:

Here is one example from a couple of years ago of a student who produced a short film in ENT 4499. His ePortfolio for his culmination project was well organized:

In the end, your ePortfolio will be examined thoroughly in this course. Please use your real name, first and last names. This way, ENT/MTEC faculty will be able to find your documents and properly evaluate them. In addition, potential future employers might be able to also locate your impressive work. Thank you. …….. February 14th, 2024 Happy Valentine’s Day! As you know, during the sessions #4 and #5, there will be a panel of faculty members to visit ENT 4499 classes. You will give your progress report orally. Please bring your slide show. There should be some written info. written, not your entire script, but some lists would be good to display. You should not just read/recite what is projected for everyone. This is a common practice for presentations: People attend to listen to what the presenters state. Typically, presenters have some notes for them besides what all the attendees can see on a screen. Then, you need to add some visuals as they would be helpful for the attendees to understand the nature of your project and the progress. After you give your progress report orally and receive some feedback from the panel and your fellow classmates, you need to write the progress report #1 on your ePortfolio right away. This will be a good practice session already towards your presentation at the end of the semester. Reminder: Please bring your slide show on a hard drive or USB stick. Please do not rely on downloading your materials right before your presentation. This is a common practice to give a presentation. First of all, at the location where you present, the internet may not be working well. This is true even at a renowned convention center. Second of all, in V321, there is one computer for the instructors. When students try to access their materials, let’s say, through Google, there would be a verification process. The presenters (as well as the attendees) would lose a minute or two easily. Let’s not waste time. This is a good rehearsal for your future professional presentations. All the best! …………. February 9, 2024 Hi, everyone! Hope you are well! Starting this semester, there will be panels to visit class to give you some feedback during the weeks of 4 – 5 and then 9 – 10. Therefore, there are some revisions of written reports, which are important requirements of this course. You can find the info. at this link, especially about the Progress Reports 1, 2, and the Project Reflection: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/ent4499fa2023-sp2024/culmination-project-submission-requirements/ All the best! ………………. January 22, 2024 Welcome to ENT 4499 (Culmination Project), Spring 2024! At this page, you can read announcements for students in all the sections of the course. You should also always consult with your section instructor (also known as faculty advisor) if you have any questions. There will be a panel in each section, consisting of three faculty members. The panelists will visit class and give you some feedback as you present your project and its progress report. In addition, you should meet with a faculty member who is in your field to consult with throughout the semester. We look forward to working with you! You all need to join another OpenLab group for ENT 4499 for archival purposes. This is where your ePortfolio will be archived automatically by joining the group, which has ENT/MTEC culmination projects of past several years: https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/groups/culmination-project/
