Song: Loyal(remix) by PARTYNEXTDOOR, Drake, and Bad Bunny
Repetitions:
“All the way around, I’m loyal”
“I got money on me, I’m loyal”
“I got money on my pocket, I’m loyal”
Changes I noticed:
-The tempo of the song changes from a steady one to a slow one when they start singing the lyrics.
-The bass comes in and out in certain portions of the song.
-The beat speeds up when Bad Bunny comes in and starts rapping in Spanish.
Phrases that strike me:
“Pain doesn’t belong here anymore”
“I just don’t want any war”
“Pain goes away when you’re with me”
These lyrics strike me because I consider myself a pacifist, meaning I don’t want any negativity or drama in my life. This is a party song therefore when we are in a party or gathering we don’t want pain or drama in the places that are supported to be nothing but fun.
WEEK 2
Song: Loco(Remix) by Beéle, Farruko, Natti Natasha, and Manuel Turizo
Original song: Loco by Beéle
Repetitions:
“Solo tiene’ que entregarte”(You just have to give yourself)
“En la radio tu song favorito”(On the radio your favorite song)
“No es un pecado desearte”(It is not a sin to desire you)
Changes I noticed:
-The tropical beat changes throughout the song both in beat and style.
-The bass is added in this song compared to the original.
-Verses are longer.
Phrases that strike me:
“Que me gusta’ mucho con bastante”(That I like ‘a lot with enough)
“Nadie sabe cĂłmo nos queremo”(No one knows how we love each other)
“Mi mood hoy estĂĄ tropical”(My mood today is tropical)
This song is very romantic and tropical, is the type of song that you will listen to on the beach drinking a nice tropical and refreshing drink. quick FYI this song sounds way better in Spanish, don’t mind the translations. I come from a very tropical country which is 90+ degrees most of the year, that being DR so that’s why I love every single thing about this song.
WEEK 3
Song: Stronger by Kanye West
Repetitions:
âDon’t act like I (never) told yaâ
âI need you right nowâ
âN-n-now that don’t kill me,
Can only make me stronger.â
Changes I noticed:
– Kanye sings some of the verses but other he raps.
-More instruments come in the song while he sings
-At the end, he just keeps repeating the same verses over and over.
Phrases that strike me:
âN-n-now that don’t kill me, Can only make me stronger.â
âI ask ’cause I’m not sure, Do anybody make real shit anymore?â
âThereâs a thousand yous, there’s only one of me.â
The song is a real throwback for me, we use to listen to it back in middle school and live by the âwhat doesnât kill me can only make me strongerâ rule. It is true if something or someone harms us we might fall but when we get up weâre stronger both mentally and physically and this song empathizes that. Over the years songs got lazier thatâs why the second quote that strikes me is relevant, nowadays thereâs a lot of nonsense music out there but that doesnât mean that there are still great artists that make amazing songs. The last quote strikes me because most people are trying to be something there are not, some stay true to themselves and that makes them more unique in this kind of society.
WEEK 4
Song: âGrenadeâ by Bruno Mars
Repetitions:
âI’d catch a grenade for ya (yeah, yeah)â
âThrow my hand on a blade for ya (yeah, yeah)â
âI’d jump in front of a train for ya (yeah, yeah)â
Changes I noticed:
-The piano pace changes throughout the song.
-The chorus of the songs is dynamic.
-Brunoâs voice gets higher and lower throughout the song.
Phrases that strike me:
âOh oh I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for ya baby
But you won’t do the sameâ
These words strike me because thereâs a lot of people out there that do a lot for their partners, friends, family, etc but some of them wouldnât even think about doing the same. Itâs just something I can personally relate to doing the most for someone that wouldnât do anything for me. As the saying goes though âwe live and we learnâ from our mistakes.
