Week 14

This week, we are primarily focusing on studio time, or time devoted to working on your deliverables, creating your final portfolio, catching up on weekly writing assignments, and any other work product related to the class. Make use of this time and our lab computers to get as much done before you leave today. Add a comment to this post for this week’s weekly writing assignment focused on our penultimate readings.

Week 13

In the screenshot above, you can see the header image of a post that I wrote about my teaching setup and workflow when the pandemic began. It’s purpose was to help less technically savvy colleagues see how to setup their workspace and develop a digital workflow meant to support teaching remotely. When you have to figure out a workflow or process on your own, it can be a great writing exercise to commit it to the page and share it online–not only as a way to help others but also as a way to demonstrate your expertise about the process and as a technical communicator!

  • Beginning of Class Writing Assignment
  • Catch up on readings discussion
  • Introduce final portfolio
  • Studio time for peer review, usability testing, and working on final portfolio

Week 12

This brain and books sculpture is on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. It can serve as a reminder to PTW students that reading is imperative for developing one’s brain, gaining knowledge, and preparing for the intellectual rigors of a life in writing and communicating.

  • Beginning of Class Writing Assignment
  • Perform Peer Review on Technical Definition
  • Introduce final deliverable: User Testing Report
    • More LEGO!
    • Time Yourself (Baseline)
    • Time and Question at least 2 users
  • Save readings discussion for next meeting after Thanksgiving (mega discussion of Week 11, 12, and 13!). We will talk about Final Portfolio then, too.
  • Review syllabus about next week’s readings and work
