An additional 50 minutes of writing time has been built into this course, and we will be making the most of it, reading and responding to each other’s work in real time. At the appointed time, you will work independently, in groups, and/or with me improving your skills, facing down any writing issues you may harbor, working on in-class writing assignments, revising your work, and developing your voice. During this lab time, we also acquire the means to become respectful readers, listeners, and responders.
On Thursdays, during our Writing Lab hour, you will write many different short assignments. You may type them or handwrite them, but they are due to me in Dropbox or in person by the end of that hour. I will not accept late assignments in this category.
The College’s Atrium Learning Center (AG-18) provides a variety of subject tutoring, including writing. Room AG-31 is reserved for Eng 1101 and 1121 students. The ALC is open Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 7 pm and Friday from 9 am to 5 pm; their subject tutoring hours are slightly shorter. Writing tutoring is useful if you think you need extra help, and required if I ask you to obtain it.
I hope that you find the college experience exciting and stimulating, but the transition to college coursework can also be challenging. Learning to manage your time is a key part of maintaining balance and staying focused. I am more than happy to consult with any student who feels overwhelmed. Please feel free to come to me with any questions or concerns. I can’t help if you don’t ask.
