At the beginning of class today, we will discuss what a memorandum or memo is and what purposes a memo might serve in the workplace.
Then, using the magazine article that you read before today’s class, you will have an opportunity to write a memo summarizing what you have read. Follow the instructions below to write your memo in a word processor of your choice, save your work, and copy-and-paste your completed memo into a comment made to this blog post.
These are the parameters for this deliverable:
- Begin with a memo header (to, from, date, subject)
- Write at least 250 words summarizing the article in your own words.
- No citations should be made in this first assignment.
- This summary should be based on your memory of the important points of the article and expressed entirely in your own words.
- Your audience for this summary memo is a coworker who shares your education and background.
- Its purpose is to share the main points made in the article with a coworker who might be interested in the content of the article.

I think business owner should always update their businesses and make it better for their customers, that’s why I wrote this of John Marshall’s article, “What Does Soap Have to do with your Business” found in Journal of Dental Technology (August/September 2018). Below, I explain his ideas about hotel uses different style of soap to please their custom end help their business grow, and how a simple change can make your business more valuable and how important it is to get feedback from co-worker and customers in order to make your business suit them better.
John Marshall talk about two different soap styles to show us how these two hotels were able to make him feel better as a guest just with a simple commodity like soap. The idea behind his article is to encourage businesses or business owners to take the extra step necessary to please their customer. No matter how small or simple of a change they have to make, if it benefits their customers they should take it. For all I know john is probably going to stay at that hotel again, just so he could enjoy their soap. When they value their customers enough to go an extra step to provide good service of quality your business will flourish.
The best way to know how to finesse their businesses is to get feedback from their employee and customers. That way they get clear ideas of what need to be done right from the people they serve. The more the customers knows the company care about them and the quality of service they are providing for them, the more likely they are to be faithful customers, which in the long run end up benefiting their business. Some step is worth taking no matter how small, big, complex, or simple they are, as long as it benefits both the company and the customers.

I think e-cigarettes should not have been introduced to kids because you basically have kids at different ages smoking cigarettes. Stores should not be sellings these e-cigarettes or âmylesâ because they are supposed to be sold to adults only. This is why I picked the article â As kids get addicted to e-cigs, treatment options are slimâ by Markham Heid. I found this article in a TIME magazine which came out April 1st, 2019. In the other paragraphs below Iâll explain why he thinks the e-cigarettes are not good for kids.
E-cigarettes are basically a machine that has nicotine in it and it contains as much nicotine as a pack of actual cigarettes. It is supposed to be sold only to adults but now kids are using them as well. They’re more kids using them then adults, they claim to use them to help with stress and to feel relaxed. People try to push kids away from using these e-cigs and give them other options to use but they aren’t that good also. They suggested patches and gum to distract them from the thought of using nicotine. These things haven’t been proved to be effective but it is still worth a shot. As the years are going more and more kids are using these myles and its not healthy for them. People are looking for ways to help kids quit using these e-cigarettes.

âSay Yes to Yourselfâ is an article in Poets & Writers by Camille T. Dungy that urges aspiring writers to carve out time in their lives for writing. She explains how the world will always find something to distract you with so it is our duty as writers to find time in our lives to practice our craft. She even recalls writing this article. She explains how she was awoken by her newborn early in the morning. It was still dark out but instead of going to bed she went to her computer and started typing. She explains how as writers sometimes we must lose sleep in order to get our thoughts on the page. Dungy explains how there is dead time throughout all of our days when we can write. Victoria Chang wrote a whole book of poems in the car while she was waiting for her kids to finish their dance class. Instead of flipping through instagram and facebook during your hour long morning commute WRITE instead! If writing is something that you value, find ways to make it easier to do!
