The fundamental aspects of narrative in digital environments. Students will learn to identify common elements of digital stories and analyze how story creators utilize digital tools, platforms, and interfaces to add interactivity to their narratives. Hands-on introductions to a range of freely available digital storytelling tools to create narratives in a variety of interactive formats.
ENG3790 Information Architecture
This theory and practice-based course provides an overview of the concepts and practices of information architecture: organization, labeling, navigation, search, and metadata. Students will develop practical skills through the study of human-computer interaction.
ENG2730, Professional Editing & Revising, Spring 2021
Students will learn to identify audiences and choose appropriate language, tone, and style in order to write, edit, and revise a variety of communiqués in various workplace scenarios. Revision documents may be internally created or externally appropriated, depending on the instructor’s discretion. Instruction in the protocols of revising, editing, proofreading, and associated tasks. An emphasis on the ability to rethink and adapt to ever-present writing exigencies.
ENG2420 E573 Science Fiction, Spring 2020
We will explore the emergence of Science Fiction (SF) and examine its preeminence as interdisciplinary literary and artistic forms of pressing cultural importance. To accomplish this, we will read and watch significant examples of SF from its long history beginning with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and concluding with cyberpunk. Students will have opportunities to demonstrate their learning through note taking, weekly writing assignments, a research essay, and an essay-format final exam. This course explores research and documentation for all media formats including text, images, sound, and multimedia. Students will explore information issues, especially in terms of their relevance today: how information is produced and organized in both traditional and emerging media, how information access is affected by political, economic and cultural factors, and the ethics of information use. Students will also acquire the practical skills of locating information sources in a variety of media and formats, critical evaluation of sources, and documentation and citation of traditional and emerging media and technologies. Students will apply what they learn to create and present research and documentation projects.
My Projects
Each year, the English Department at New York City College of Technology organizes the Literary Arts Festival. This event highlights the work of students, staff, and faculty, as well as accomplished writers outside of the City Tech community. There is also a writing competition that awards prizes to students in a variety of writing categories, as well as to faculty and staff in their own category.
