Two concepts that catch my curiosity quite consistently are fear and fungi. Unrelated, in general, as most folks don’t find themselves terribly moved by mushrooms one way or another, but separately fascinating. The subjects of evolutionary psychology of the phenomenon of fear, as well as individuals’ personal relationship with it and their development of and beside it, are topics of incredibly vast breadth and depth. Fungi are, frankly, just so neat. They’re funky classification-defying little dudes. Decay exists as an extant form of life, and these decomposers bring to mind philosophical questions about the nature of immortality and connection. This is not even mentioning mycelium, which mimics the connections of the human brain, interconnecting vast quantities of individual organisms to create a whole.
