In part one of the project, we started off by creating a composition of abstract shapes in Adobe Illustrator using a triad color palette. We explored shape overlays by playing around with variations in opacity levels to create color transparency and to better understand the use of layers/transparency to convey space, overlap, continuity, and meaning in our work.

In the second part of this project, we created a photo-based composite composition using tools in Adobe Photoshop such as opacity levels, quick selection tool, and layer mask. We got to work together in groups where we combined our ideas to create a cohesive theme for our project and we each got to create an iteration of it.

Our group leaned in with more of a sci-fi theme and decided to explore the idea of cities being set on Mars. In my composite, I combined different images utilizing the design principles learned throughout the semester and the compositional ideas of overlap, cropping, hierarchy, scale, space, color palette, and value to create the world of Mars and what it would look like outside the glass walls containing the city. The composite shows two curious astronauts exploring outside the glass wall city where they encounter an alien-like creature. It was a lot of fun creating this piece as it allowed me to play around with the layers and transparency of each component and just be creative with it.
