On our tour to Jackson Heights, Professor got us all Colombian bunuelos. I have never had one before but these are the perfect combination of crisp and fluffy. The outside seemed to have just been fried and in the process the inside was steamy and soft. They were delicious and I could have definitely eaten a bags worth.
I tried the sheep’s milk flavored chocolate, never again. It tasted as though I was eating the animal itself. There are some things that should not be combined, and sheep’s milk flavored chocolate in my opinion is one of them.
This was a surprise to my palette. I have see herring in cream sauce before but I didn’t like how it looked so I never tried it, but I decided to be brave and tried it when we went on our culinary tour of Little Italy. I had a premonition of what it might taste like but looking at it, but to my unexpected surprise it wasn’t that bad. The herring was sweet and tangy but had a lingering onion taste on the palette. one try was enough. I also tried the gravlax with cream cheese bagel, I liked it very much, the smoky flavor of the locks paired with the creamy texture and taste of the cream cheese was nice. I’ll try it again.
Back in August I went to a Thai restaurant, Lantern Thai Kitchen. I had the Grilled chicken skewers with peanut sauce and cucumber relish for my appetizer, the chicken was nice and tender with a curry seasoning flavor, I loved the peanut sauce which complemented the dish nicely. It was really good and I would definitely try it again. I also tried a Watermelon martini, it was not what i expected, i taught it would of tasted like watermelon, but it was a bit tangy and to sweet.I choose the sauteed beef Rama in peanut sauce with fresh spinach for my entree, yikes I did not enjoy this dish at all. The beef was chewy and the peanut sauce was thick and sweet, it was just to much, I learned a little goes a long way, small doses of peanut sauce at a time. Since I never had green tea ice cream before I ventured to try it, never again, it tasted like green grass or moss, tea and ice cream don’t mix.
Another version of a a burger I recently tried is the famous ramen burger – a classic beef patty, cheese, and a “bun” made of ramen noodles. Although, I love to try new things and the burger in general was delicious, I would not trade a traditional bun for this version. The texture of the noodles combined with the burger just doesn’t do it for me, unless I’m up for hand-held spaghetti bolognese.
This past summer, I went to Smorgasburg in Williamsburg. It’s like a flea market with food. So much food and so little time! One of the best bites I tried was the Scotch Egg – a soft boiled egg inside a crispy “meatball”. You can choose the meat – chicken, lamb, etc. The lamb was delicious! The outside is fried and crispy, the meat is well seasoned, and the egg yolk is SOFT (beats me!). There is usually some kind of a sauce to accompany the egg. Highly recommend!
I could not help but post my dinner in this section. I went out to watch the hockey game and of course I wanted to enjoy the game while trying an unfamiliar bite. I went to the Ainsworth to check out the mac n’ cheese burger. It did not disappoint! The creation consisted of a bottom bun, fried mac n’ cheese patty, burger, scoop of mac and cheese, and a top bun. It’s like a sophisticated version of hamburger helper!
My first time trying falafel. It has grounded falafel balls inside that is made from chick peas. I also got hummus that is made from also chick peas. It has tomatoes, red cabbage, medium sauce and cucumbers. The pita bread was the binding agent that held the ingredients. The taste was a bit bland and has a aftertaste that is not pleasant. It was overall, a good alternative to eat healthier but its not my thing.
This is sandwich i have never tried before. It is Grilled Polish Kielbasa Sandwich. It has beer mustard with grilled onion, tomato, pickles and the bread is a Cuban baguette. I do not know what kind of sausage it would be and what the texture and taste would be. It was a bit salty but probably is normal because sausage is naturally salty. It was filling but it was not a Polish sandwich I would want to eat again. It was not really special and is like a ordinary burger I would eat just to get full.
It was my first time seeing that chocolate was in a fruit. It was my first time trying goat chocolate, sheep chocolate, olive chocolate and maple chocolate. It was a good experience in having the taste of exotic chocolate that i would never have imagined to try. The goat and sheep chocolate tasted really weird and my throat had like a barf aftertaste. The olive and maple chocolate was the best of all. All the chocolate they had was very smooth and is in high quality.
