Morgensterns Ice Cream

It is located at  2 Rivington St, New York, NY 10002.  The ice cream parlor was very interesting.  The place has interesting flavors that is not normal.  The Dorian banana ice cream was very different then old and ordinary ice cream.  The ice cream tasted very vulgar in like a onion taste then it has a little sweet taste of sweetness to it.  The pricing of the ice cream is not to expensive and the parlor is clean and looks like its a old style ice cream shop.  I overall like the place and I would go back if i have time.

David I strongly agree with you about the Durian banana ice cream, it tasted absolutely horrible in my mouth I almost regurgitated. The ice cream tasted like onions, in my opinion keep ice cream and onions separate lol. I loved the salted chocolate flavor, it was rich and thick, sweet with a hint of salty. I think I’ve found my new favorite ice cream flavor. Morgensterns icecream shop is more like a ice cream parlor. I liked the throw-back decor, I felt like I stepped back in time. I loved the counter seats concept very warm and inviting. I also love the fact that they keep their ingredience very simple, all their ice cream are eggless, relatively low in sugar, and also low in butterfat. You would think that Morgenstern’s ice cream would be lacking in flavor or texture because of their simplified ingredients, but that’s not the case, I have tasted there icecream and there was nothing lacking from that salted chocolate flavor yum yum. I will definitely be revisiting this shop in the future.

I’d like to give this ice cream parlor another try. Maybe order a float or a shake. Their artisanal ice cream is eggless therefore that’s why I found it to be a bit flat(?); like a soda that’s lost it’s carbonation. As much as I liked this cute little themed shop, I don’t think I can wildly experiment with their ice cream. They had something called Mr. Curry ice cream? I’d like to stay away from that as far as possible. What I also didn’t like about the shop was the attitude of the employee. Not only was she not inviting, she didn’t use gloves when switching from cashier to the ice cream! That itself should be a serious violation.

This was a very cute ice cream parlor, it had the old decor that transported you to the past. The Flavors were very different than any other ice cream parlor , I don’t know if I would go back based on the Flavors. The Durian banana flavor wasnt too bad for my taste , when I heard other people’s opinion before I tasted it I was expecting for it to be horrible but it wasn’t for me. To be honest I liked it better than the salted chocolate. The durian banana ice cream had a slight tangy oniony taste but then you tasted the banana and I love banana ice cream.

Overall i felt the ice cream parlor was great with a pleasurable decor and some wonderful yet unique flavors. I would love to go back when i have a chance to try the different flavors they have to offer. I would have to disagree with some of you that are saying the Dorian Banana flavor was awful. i feel that i was not that bad once you get past the first official taste which some of you referred to as “onion”. To me it wasn’t as strong as an onion taste but more of a leek flavor. the banana sweetness balanced it out very well and complemented it. I really liked it personally because it was something i hadn’t tasted before and it was very unique. I found it especially great how all their flavors were not made with eggs. My personal favorite would have to be the Salted chocolate not because I LOVE CHOCOLATE but rather the balance of sweet with the chocolate and the saltiness just worked really well together.

Morgenstern’s was probably the best part of the L.E.S/ Little Italy tour in my opinion. I definitely agree with you David on the prices and the variety of interesting flavors. The ice cream was very light and didn’t seem too creamy or too sweet in comparison to lets say your typical grocery brand or neighborhood ice cream truck. What I didn’t like about the place was the customer service. I felt the cashier was unwelcoming and if I didn’t know about Morgenstern’s before and walked in on my own she would definitely turn me off to it, and I’d probably walk out.
