The office I have chosen for my assignment is the legal department of Universal Music Group. The New York office is located at 1755 Broadway # 6, New York, NY 10019. UMG is a “music-based entertainment” company with offices around the world. It includes the record labels Republic Records, Island Records, Def Jam, and even a publishing sector called Universal Music Publishing Group. According to the reading, the company would be considered a corporation. The department within the company I would like to work in is the Business and Legal Affairs Department as a paralegal/legal assistant. The department deals with any legal aspects or issues from all the different labels and sections within the umbrella company UMG.

I actually found a listing for the position I would like to start out in online! It was for the Santa Monica office but I believe the tasks would be the same if not similar for the New York office. Tasks included reviewing contracts, researching claims, assisting in responding to items including discovery requests and subpoenas, maintaining filing systems, preparing documents, and more.

A Law office I would like to work at is called Law Firm of Dayrel Sewell, PLLC.  They specialize in Real Estate Law, Corporate Law, and High Profile Patents like Social Media influencers. This Law firm is located at 599 E. 2nd in Brooklyn, NY. They claim that their work ethic is nothing matched to other law firms.

A law office I would like to work is UnLocal. UnLocal is a community-centered non-profit organization that provides direct immigration legal representation and community education to New York City’s undocumented immigrant communities. According to goggle  its mission is to address the fundamental injustices and structural inequities that disproportionately impact our communities. Their main goal is create a sustainable structures that build collective power and allow us to flourish.

The law office that I would eventually like to work at is The Blanch Law Firm. It is a private law firm that specializes in criminal defense, which is what I would like to do. It’s located at 261 Madison Ave floor 12, New York NY, 10016. The team here is very diverse being that they have lawyers from all different backgrounds of the justice system, but the main focus is criminal defense. According to their website the firm has three divisions, white collar crime, professionals and high profile individuals, and blue and grey collar division. Id like to work here because I think they have a wide variety of cases they take and they think of their work so highly.

A law office in NYC where I might like to work would be Pryor Cashman LLP. The NYC office address is 7 Times Square 40^th Floor New York, NY, 10036. I would like to work at this law office because as I researched it, I came across reviews saying that while the firm hires people who are “smart, hard-working, personable, and resourceful” they also use a person’s personality to judge whether or not they may get hired. The review also said that the firm culture was “liberal, mostly laid back, and flexible” Out of all the firms I looked into this really stood out to me because if they use personality as a category for hiring and the firm culture is described as “liberal and laid back” then I feel like I may fit right in. The firm was founded as an entertainment law boutique firm. I believe they do various kinds of work because on the website I see that they have categories for different kinds of law. However, if I was to work there, I would go into family law.

I chose New York County Defender Services because I believe the services offered are more genuine, meaning that even if a potential client can’t afford representation a lawyer will still be awarded. For example, these are some of the services offered free immigration assistance, information on how to locate a loved one who was recently arrested, and information on almost any legal issue someone may be facing which can be found in the “community service” tab on their website. I also checked the job postings and at the moment they’re not hiring but on their website in the “what we do” tab it states that they do employ Paralegals. In conclusion, I believe this is a legal services organization based on their services.
