LL 1- The Thing Itself

In “The Thing Itself” from The Photographer’s Eye by John Szarkowski, John is trying to explain the difference between the subject of the photograph and the photograph itself. I believe the difference is that the ‘subject’ is the object within the photograph but the photograph is what the viewer should really be looking at as a whole. The photograph is more important than the thing itself because it not only shows you the subject but it helps create the mood of the subject and the way the subject, as well as the photograph itself, should actually be depicted. Basically, there is more to a photo than the object in it.
