Human Services Internship

Human Services majors are required to complete two internship courses in New York City College of Technology. During the first internship course I was placed at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). The population at UCP is people with disabilities. My position at UCP was a companion and chaperone. The second placement was at Ridgewood Presbyterian Church, Adult Services Program. The concentration was older adults. I assisted the director of programs with planning and preparations of events.

The skills that I have learned during the course of my internships are cultural competence; critical thinking; interpersonal communication; interaction with diverse populations; research and planning. Hands on experience is beneficial to gain an understanding of concepts and procedures.
