Creating Your E-Portfolio on OpenLab: A Step-by-Step Guide

PORFOLIO

Congratulations on taking the next step in your academic journey by creating your own E-Portfolio on OpenLab! In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the process of setting up your digital showcase space.

Step 1: Accessing Your Profile

The journey begins once you’ve signed in. Navigate to your profile page by clicking next to your profile image box or through the drop-down menu under “OpenLab.” Here, you have the opportunity to personalize your profile with a picture and a short bio. But for now, let’s focus on creating your very first E-Portfolio.

Step 2: Initiating E-Portfolio Creation

At the top right of your profile page, locate the plus sign that says “+create an E-Portfolio” and click on it. This will lead you through a series of steps to bring your E-Portfolio to life.

Step 1: Naming Your E-Portfolio

Choose a portfolio name; it’s recommended to use your first and last name followed by “E-Portfolio.” For example, if your name is Sarah Miller, your E-Portfolio name could be “Sarah Miller’s E-Portfolio.”

Step 2: Providing a Short Description

Give your portfolio a brief description. This could be something like, “This is my communication design portfolio where I showcase my work for all to view.” Remember, you can always come back to edit this description.

Step 3: Selecting Your Major’s Department

Specify your major’s department name to further categorize your E-Portfolio.

Step 4: Choosing Site Details

In this section, you have three options: create a new site, use an existing site, or use an external site. For this tutorial, we’ll create a new site. Ensure “Student Portfolio General” is selected for a default theme to kickstart your E-Portfolio.

Step 5: Exploring COMD Templates (Optional)

For Communication Design (COMD) students, there’s a specific template tailored for uploading work. Let us know in the comments if you’d like a video tutorial on using the COMD template.

Step 6: Creating Your E-Portfolio

Click on the “Create an E-Portfolio and continue” button at the bottom to proceed to the next step.

Step 7: Configuring Privacy Settings

Now, let’s ensure your privacy settings align with your preferences. Choose “This is a public E-Portfolio” and select the option “Allow search engines to index this site.” These settings can be modified later if needed.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully created your very first E-Portfolio on OpenLab. Now, the canvas is yours to customize, upload your work, create engaging content, and showcase it to the world. Whether you choose to change themes, personalize further, or keep it simple, your E-Portfolio is a digital testament to your skills and accomplishments.
