Museum Report

“Huxley’s Guide to Switzerland” Christopher Winter
“The Converge” Cao Jun
“Kabuki Actor Ichikawa Ebizo as Higuchi Jiro”  Kuniyoshi

The digital museum walk through of the  Nassau County Museum’s Exhibit Blue was a way different experience than I thought it would be. I’ve never been there but I have been to other museums and just seeing the art pieces through a digital screen I feel like it takes away from the experience and it feels absolutely limiting. The art piece that my group had was Christopher Winter “Huxley’s Guide to Switzerland” which was painted with acrylic on canvas and I wanna say they are brother and sister that are reflecting on their own lives in a spiritual matter as they are flying through mountains and near water. They are reflecting on the choices they made that either hurt their brother & sister relationship. But now this reflection will lead to a coming together of family and a true bond will be formed. The next two pieces of art that I will be discussing are the Kuniyoshi, “Kabuki Actor Ichikawa Ebizo as Higuchi Jiro”  which was done in color woodblock print and the Cao Jun “The Converge” which was done in different media on canvas. First I’ll be talking about Kuniyoshi “Kabuki Actor Ichikawa Ebizo as Higuchi Jiro” I believe that this piece presents us with a warrior in a stance that shows me he is ready for a fight and the use of blue here I feel like it is meant to represent loyalty and strength. The next piece I’ll be talking about is Cao Jun “The Converge” for this piece. It reminds me of somewhere in a mountain range with a gust of wind being represented by a blue wave going over the mountain of green. The color blue here makes me feel faith and reminds me of heaven. And this is where the experience is limited because I am not able to see the texture in detail. All of the pieces have one color in common which is blue and blue in these pieces are used as a main part or an after thought and they are all used really well.
