Exams (50% of grade):
There will be 4 exams + a final exam. The lowest of the 4 exam grades will be dropped. Exams will last for 1 hour and will start at the beginning of the period. No extra time is given for students who arrive late. Exam dates are: 9/19, 10/22, 11/14, and 12/12.
There will be no ‘make–up’ exams. Unless a valid excuse (medical or family emergencies, University related travel such as athletic or academic competitions) is presented in advance, a missed exam will receive the score 0. Students must look at this syllabus carefully and plan well ahead: personal travel is NOT a valid excuse. If a student misses an exam for a valid reason and provides a written verification from an appropriate authority (not a family member), that percentage of the grade may be made up on the final. No extra time will be given in exams to students who arrive late.
Workshop Participation (5% of grade):
On Tuesdays from 11:50 am – 12:50 pm in room N702 a PLTL Workshop for this class will be held. Participation in this workshop is mandatory and will contribute 5% of your grade.
Final Exam (30% of grade):
A full period final examination is given the last class meeting of the semester on 12/19. It covers all topics studied.
The final exam must be taken to pass the course. No student will be allowed to take the final exam early.
Homework (15% of grade):
Homework will be assigned via WeBWorK and open source, online homework system.
