This paper was produced while enrolled in the Case Management course required for my BSN degree. The goals of this paper were to analyze an issue in case management, select a particular culture of people, and to apply the concept and practice of cultural competence in taking care of the health needs of the selected culture through prudent case management. I chose to use a landmark case study concerning the medical repatriation of the undocumented immigrant population to address ethical issues in case management.
In today’s managed care environment, the 30-day readmission rate for Congestive Heart Failure patients is considered a Joint Commission core measure. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Has decided to take action by withdrawing reimbursement to health care organizations with CHF readmission rates higher than the benchmark national average. This project & presentation was created in 2011 during my Nursing Leadership & Management rotation at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, with the aim of helping to reduce the hospital’s CHF readmission rate (31.3%) to at or below the U.S. national average (24.7%) in the near future. The project was piloted in St. Luke’s Hospital’s cardiothoracic ICU and coronary care unit (CTICU / CCU).
Sprawl- A Legitimate Public Health Issue
This term paper was constructed during my Urban Health Issues In Nursing class while pursuing my BSN degree. In this paper, the objective was to select a public health issue and analyze the ways that it affects the health of the population. I selected the phenomenon known as urban sprawl, and how it potentially compromises the health of the public in varying ways, while offering suggestions to reduce some of the harmful effects of sprawl on the population. At the end of the paper, the professor of the course offers some commentary about the paper submitted.
3130 Nursing Research Term Paper
This term paper was completed during my Nursing Research course in pursuit of my baccalaureate degree. In an annotated bibliography influenced style, I summarized a randomized controlled trial (RCT) performed by researchers examining the effectiveness of a CHF intervention model named the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) on psychosocial attributes, self-care behavior and quality of life amongst patients with congestive heart failure who experience slight to marked limitation of physical activity.
