I have reviewed all of the semester project selections that were uploaded as required. Please read the comments I have written. You will find the following general comments:
- Your building was accepted – if it met all the criteria or was very close
- Your building was accepted – but required minor modification. This typically means either changing what appears to be concrete structure to steel – or adding a second material to the facade.
- Your building is borderline – it could be modified but it may be best to select another.
- Your building was not accepted – keep looking. Certain criteria are critical and too many are missing for the building to be viable. For example:
- The building is a poured in place concrete building that cannot be easily switched to steel
- The building may be too tall – we want a maximum of around 6 floors – too tall and you end up with a lot of extra work.
- The building is one large open space like a market – and does not have rooms with doors and fire rated corridors.
- The building is too small and lacking either multiple floors, an atrium space or a stair and elevator core.
- Everyone must have a building approved as we will begin working on it next week. Due on Tuesday is a research assignment for your building – if you have not made a good selection you will not be able to complete this assignment and will quickly fall behind. Your research project will include a detailed review of your building presented in class.
