Project Selection –

I have reviewed all of the semester project selections that were uploaded as required.Ā  Please read the comments I have written.Ā  You will find the following general comments:

  • Your building was accepted – if it met all the criteria or was very close
  • Your building was accepted – but required minor modification.Ā  This typically means either changing what appears to be concrete structure to steel – or adding a second material to the facade.
  • Your building is borderline – it could be modified but it may be best to select another.
  • Your building was not accepted – keep looking.Ā  Certain criteria are critical and too many are missing for the building to be viable.Ā  For example:
    • The building is a poured in place concrete building that cannot be easily switched to steel
    • The building may be too tall – we want a maximum of around 6 floors – too tall and you end up with a lot of extra work.
    • TheĀ building is one large open space like a market – and does not have rooms with doors and fire rated corridors.
    • TheĀ building is too small and lacking either multiple floors, an atrium space or a stair and elevator core.

  • Everyone mustĀ have aĀ building approved as we will begin working on it next week.Ā  Ā Due on Tuesday is a research assignment for your building – if you have not made a good selection you will not be able to complete this assignment and will quickly fall behind.Ā  Your research project will include a detailed review of your building presented in class.
