Thirteenth Post of the Semester (Describing Your Mentor Text and Committing to a Plan for Unit 3)

This post requires you to do several shorter tasks.

First, I would like you to go to the Unit 3 Assignment page on this website and review the student examples that have been posted.

Next, you will address two prompts. Both are geared toward getting you started on your Unit 3 Assignment.

First, reflect on the Mentor Text Analysis activity that we completed in class. Review the notes that you made about your mentor text. In a paragraph of at least 100 words, describe your findings from your Mentor Text Analysis. In particular, write about the aspects of your mentor text that you would like to emulate in your own work.

Second, in another paragraph of at least 100 words, describe your concrete plan for your Unit 3 assignment. What genre will your DEFINITELY be working in? What is your EXACT purpose? What SPECIFIC audience are you trying to reach? How will you give EXPLICIT credit to outside resources? Also describe some of the more practical elements of the text you will put together. For example, how will you organize your ideas? What kinds of visuals, if any, do you plan to incorporate? What about audio? What software, if any, do you plan to use? What other resources do you plan to access?

In my findings I learned a lot about laziness and how people’s perception of it changes from one to another.  How some people believe that anything related to laziness to automatically believe to be negative and wrong.  From our very culture to religion it has been a topic such as the start of human civilization. I like to include my own story with laziness and how I struggle with it throughout my life. How I hated being called that all the time in my past. And how I think bad of myself whenever I do things at the last minute or when I am not motivated to do what I need to do. I want to try and connect with the reader with my story. And learn from it and improve so they don’t make the same mistakes as I did. Truly from the model I was able to get a clearer idea on what I need to do and topics or things I can add to make it the best it can be.

    Strategy

My plan for my Unit Three Assignment is pretty simple. I am planning a 500 to 800 word Open Ed article. My topic for this is laziness as it is a topic that is very personal to me and something I want to improve on and be better at. I plan to tell the reader my story and the struggles I am having now and the mistakes I made so that others don’t do the same. Due to this I am planning a pathos-like article so I hope that the reader can feel the

My Mentor Text was an Infographic called Sea Levels Rise. I liked many things about this infographic, I liked that it has an informal tone. This tone is maintained throughout the whole infographic, and I think is a good thing for what I researched since it’s also based on science. The infographic also starts with a bit of history explaining how it got to the point it is at. I think that Is a great way to start since the audience has to know the beginning of a problem. I also like that they use images to show what they are talking about. I will be using this for my own infographic. But the thing I liked the most was the design of the infographic. It has a watery design with many images and charts.

    Strategy

My plan for my unit 3 assignment is to make it as short as possible since my genre is an infographic, I wouldn’t like it to be long, I would like it if it looked short. My topic is Tree Talk. I would like to keep an informative tone throughout the infographic since this will provide the audience with a lot of important information. The audience I am trying to reach are science enthusiasts or high schools.

The mentor text analysis was written in a serious and urgent tone, the author showed how significant the problem was and what needed to be done to get it fixed. The author included percentage evidence, sources from the congress of the United States, the U.S house of representatives, and Porterhouse.gov. Provided really good information and detail about women being affected in the pandemic. I liked the audio included from KNX1070 News source/podcast. The thread was a great length of 10 pages that were very informative and organized but not very visually appealing. Author very clearly points out the target audience women, lawmakers, children and more. I would like to keep my own work organized and informative so it can be easy to read. I can also add more visual aspects to grab the readers attention. I hope that each of my 10 pages can also be read on their own.

I will definitely be doing a twitter thread about e-commerce and my plan is to get readers attention by showing a new online job opportunity that is bringing in billions. I am looking to reach young adults or people with online experience and inform them about the benefits of e-commerce. I would like to include charts and graphs showing how much e-commerce platforms have generated in 2023 and talk to people who have successful e-commerce platforms. My goal is to inform people about e-commerce, educate people on how they start their own business online , educate people on the advertisements they see online and where their products come from, inform people why e-commerce is becoming more popular and more. I hope to include my information in an organized order and with reliable sources.

I concentrated on an infographic about climate change for the Mentor Text Analysis assignment. A noteworthy feature that I would like to replicate in my work is the skillful fusion of short text and eye-catching images. The mentor text skillfully and simply presented complicated material on sea level rise. The audience was able to rapidly understand the main elements because of the well-planned use of colors and iconography, which also improved the visual attractiveness. To ensure that the images in my infographic support and strengthen the point I want to make about climate change and its effects on New York City, I also want to try and maintain a similar balance between text and images.

I will be creating an infographic for my Unit 3 assignment with the express goal of bringing attention to the serious problem of increasing sea levels in New York City as a result of climate change. Anyone interested in environmental issues, local policymakers, and NYC residents are among my target audience. To explicitly acknowledge external sources, I intend to incorporate appropriate citations into the infographic. I’ll arrange my thoughts by outlining the most important information regarding sea level rise, its effects on cities, and possible remedies. There will be charts, maps, and powerful pictures among the visuals. I intend to use visual design software like Canva or Adobe Illustrator to construct the infographic. Furthermore, I’ll consult trustworthy resources like my climate academic report and my articles on the solutions. My sources are reliable so the information provided will be useful.

For my unit 3 assignment, I’m planning on doing an infographic. My infographic would contain information about how contaminated water affects children’s health, physically and psychologically. I want to first introduce my topic and just give a brief summary of it, in order for people to understand what I’m talking about. Then I’ll give examples of how contaminated water harms children’s health. This would raise more concern and wariness about the topic since it involves children’s health and how it will disrupt them the time they’re exposed and in the future, as the examples will be long term effects. This whole infographic would be targeting parents
