From the reading “Occupying Public Space, 2011” by Van Heeswijk, Franck and Huang, the use of space are negotiated by the kind of responsibilities people have for the shared spaces of the city, and for the others with which they share those spaces. people are the ones involved in negotiating how space is used by organizing an event in a public park, they provoke discussions about the usage of public spaces. The occupation of space indicate the importance of public space as a right, in and of itself, and to make it easier to claim to numerous other rights. for example the case of “Tahrir”, it was simply the right to a meaningful vote. creating such public spaces not only improves the quality of living, especially in urban areas but also fulfills social, economic, political, cultural and sometimes environmental needs of the public. People’s occupation of public space is often temporary but sometimes it may last longer. when the goal for occupying the space is achieved, these activities eventually end. “cultural interventions” here in the USA and all over the globe, not only have to take space to be heard and to be effective, but to hold it to occupy it.
