Performances

This list of performances organized by cost will be updated as the semester progresses. One required performance must be attended by the week of 11/21 for Site Report 3.

Information on Broadway and Off-Broadway discount options:

1. Sign up for a free membership at Playbill.com. Go to the site, sign up, and look at the discounted shows they are offering.  It is still cheaper to do student rush tickets for some Broadway shows, but not all shows offer student rush.

2. Information about student rush tickets is here: http://www.playbill.com/celebritybuzz/article/82428-Broadway-Rush-Lottery-and-Standing-Room-Only-Policies and here: http://studentrush.org/products/

3. TKTS booths. There’s one in Times Square and there’s one right down the street from City Tech (near the entrance to the A/F trains on Jay Street)! Deeply discounted Broadway tickets for the same day. Decide on a night you want to go to the theater and go to the booth to see what’s available. You can do it on your way home after school.

4. If you like to go to the theatre  more than once a year, then you should get a $30 membership to TDF (tdf.org).  This membership is only offered to students and teachers and you get MAJOR discounts on shows.  If you use TDF to purchase two tickets, you’ve paid for the price of an annual membership.

5. Signature Theater (West 42nd Street) has reasonably priced tickets — approximately $30. Their shows are usually very good (dramas, mostly).

6. The Public Theater (Astor Place) offers $30 tickets for students to all of their performances. A wide range of new work from top artists (“Hamilton” started at the Public!): http://www.publictheater.org/Tickets/Box-Office-Details/

7. Ticket services: vividseats.com, groupon, Goldstar. Prices vary. You may be  able to do better at TKTS or Playbill.com.

8. Excellent aggregate of sources: http://www.broadwayforbrokepeople.com/ and http://www.playbill.com/article/off-broadway-rush-and-inexpensive-ticket-policies-com-173110

9. Online Rush tickets at Lincoln Center: https://www.lct.org/linctix/

10. Theatre for a New Audience “New Deal”: https://www.tfana.org/current-season/newdeal  (this theatre is close by in Brooklyn Ft. Greene)

11. Today tix (https://www.todaytix.com/) offers discounts on select Broadway and Off-Broadway shows and runs same-day lotteries for tickets to popular shows.

12. Club Free Time is a mailing list and subscription service ($20) per year that lists free events in NYC including theater. Subscribers receive notifications of deeply discounted shows.
