Francisco Diiaz Cover Letter

time warner cable

Good day Sir or Madam,

I write this cover letter to clearly state my goals and objectives. I am a self-motivated person. I strive to achieve goals to the best of my abilities. I work well under pressure and conjunction with teams. The driving force behind my motivation is my strong desire to make a positive contribution to society. I read with interest your job posting for a technician on your company website. I graduated in December 2009 from LaGuardia Community College with an Associate in Liberal Arts Social Sciences and Humanities. As a college student I was an IT intern who assisted other students with technical IT problems and issues.

The enclosed resume highlights my skills and training.  My studies and internship at LaGuardia Community College have given me a solid foundation in some of the areas of Electronics and Telecommunications (fiber optics, SONET, satellite systems, global positioning systems, networks administrator, and issues in telecommunication industries).  In addition, I have various computer skills that can be beneficial to your organization.  Besides school, I have taken the A+ certification training course. My training in A+ I acquired the knowledge to build a computer from scratch, troubleshoot it and set up a small office network. I was given a certificate stating that I am certified for the above tasks.

If given the opportunity to work for Time Warner Cable I hope to be able to gain experience and an overall insight within the telecommunication field. My desire is to channel my internal drive for the industry toward a career within the telecommunication industry. I hope my characteristics, morals, values and internal drive for success provide an asset for your company. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read my resume and cover letter. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future to schedule an interview at your convenience during which time I hope to learn more about your company, its plans, goals and objectives, and how I might contribute to its continued success.

Respectfully

Francisco Diaz

    1) This cover letter is a job posting for:
Time Warner Cable – IT Technician in Electronics and Telecommunications.
You have experience in the telecommunications industry including fiber optics, satellite systems, global positioning systems, and network administration.
Your work will consist of individual as well as a member of a team. You must be able to think quickly and function well under pressured situations.

    2) My reverse engineering of the cover letter came pretty close to the job listing. The cover letter is successful in providing experience that fulfills the requirements posted in the listing. However, I do not have knowledge of the specific technical skills related to telecommunications so I assume what is listed by Francisco is applicable.

    3) The letter makes the person seem like a good to almost outstanding candidate.

    4) The applicant included his educational background and skill set applicable to the job. There are just a few things that might have been addressed in the cover letter:
-Does educational training include hands-on work with tools out in the field?
    – Does applicant have a driver’s license with clean record?
    – Does applicant meet physical requirements for job?

To finish my post on Francisco’s cover letter.
    5) There are a few little changes that would make the information in this letter more concise and relevant to the recruiter:
-The first sentence does not give specific information needed by the recruiter and could be eliminated.
Remember, a cover letter is not about what the applicant wants but what the applicant can do to fulfill the needs of the hiring company. Maybe the letter could start with “I read with interest your posting for a technician on your website and believe I have the necessary skills and training to benefit Time Warner Inc.” Then continue with the second paragraph.
    – I don’t think you need to include the specifics of your education as this is already listed in your résumé. Including your college work as an “intern where you assisted other students with technical IT problems and issues” would be good as it shows your capacity to work within a team, possibly in a leadership role. You could mention that despite the pressure of deadlines you were able to guide your team to successfully complete a specific project.
You could also briefly mention that you do fulfill the company’s driver’s license and physical requirements. Also mention if your training and work as an intern included hands-on skills with tools. If there were any particular tools that were especially difficult to work with describe how you mastered this and/or taught it to others.
    – The last paragraph could briefly mention Time Warner’s mission statement. Maybe something about how your responsibility to work with others, drive to succeed, and skill to give the technical input needed to deliver high-quality content are in line with Time Warner’s mission and goals. And or course, finish up with your thank you and concluding thoughts.
