Our Fall 2022 Meeting schedule.
We’ll meet every Wednesday at 2:30 pm from Septembner1st – May 24th. The only exception is when school is closed on Feb 15th + Mar 28th.

Topic: Orientation and course description: objectives, requirements, recommended texts, reading/homework expectations, grading. The Role of the Contemporary Designer.
- Activities: Students will be tasked with searching for a topic to spark their own research and begin to discover issues and problems within their local communities.
- Homework: Research topics in civic and community engagement to spark an initial concept.
Week 2

- Topic: Break down research techniques and introduce this idea of human-centered design. How to present your research findings.
- Activities: Review initial student ideas in mini-group sessions, evaluate direction, and provide feedback for topic clarification.
- Homework: After feedback, find a clearer understanding of the topic to prepare to share findings with the class.
Week 3

- Topic: How do designers learn empathy? What is the importance of ethnographic research?
- Activities: Students present their initial findings to the class.

- Topic: How do you uncover specific creative solutions? What are persona(s) and how to use them in your research?
- Activities: Students present their initial findings to the class. (continued)

Week 5

- Topic: Discuss competitive sets and opportunities for this creative solution.
- Activities: Students present their secondary findings in the class and share how the research is informing their concept.
- Homework: Prepare a creative brief for the next class. State your creative challenge, strategy, concept, audience, and way to address the issue. (ideas are still in rough form)
Week 6

- Topic: What is the creative brief and how is it used to establish the framework for your research summary pitch
- Activities: Begin Research for Senior Project. Explore ideas and discover opportunities.
- Homework: Midterm research summary presentation.
Week 7
Day & Date

- Topic: Midterm research summary presentation.
- Activities: All students present an 8-minute summary of their research and what they plan to do for their project.
Week 8-9
Day & Date

- Topic: Show techniques to break out of the norms of conceiving a creative direction.
- Activities: Students use groupthink methods to discuss, review, and provide feedback to each other.
- Homework: Continue to explore via research and show progress.
Week 10
Day & Date

- Topic: Use to discuss finalize output and techniques. Review project process books.
- Activities: Students present mockup ideas for creative solutions with an understanding of the message, intention, connection, and media outlet diversity.
- Also, submit the first draft of their senior project proposal paper
- Homework: Continue to explore via research and show progress.
Week 11-13

- Topic: Use to discuss finalize output and techniques. Review project process books.
- Activities: Students use this as production time to finalize and check in to get final feedback.
- Homework: Continue to explore via research and show progress.
Week 13

- Activities: Submit research papers for your Senior Project ideas. Include a process book and all accompanying research.
Week 14-15
Day & Date

- Topic: Final presentation of creative work to class and other faculty.
- Activities: All work needs to be presentation ready to communicate clearly and convincingly your concept and support solution. Include a process book and all accompanying research.
