Flushing Hospital Medical Center. Dental Department.
In my senior year, I received an opportunity to participate in Dental Hygiene Internship at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. At the Internship, I applied all the clinical skills that I learned at the college such as root planning and scaling, local anesthesia, dental charting, radiographs, and patients counseling. Flushing Hospital Dental Clinic operates at a fast pace and normally they devote no more than 45 minutes for a patient. I practiced dental hygiene under the supervision of the doctors every Monday. I was very fortunate because Mondays are periodontal days and sometimes they alternate with pediatric days, so I received experience in both fields. I assisted the doctor during the periodontal surgery and performed root planing and scaling. The Internship was a great way to receive an introduction to hands-on periodontology and daily dental hygiene practice made me more confident and enhanced the skills I learned at college.
