For this paper, I tried to think of technologies that have changed during my lifetime. There have been quite a few; televisions, public transit tokens, telephones, cameras, and computers. My first 3 choices were the telephone, the digital camera, and either the MetroCard or the OMNY card. In trying to incorporate McLuhan’s philosophy into my writing, I realized the 3 items I chose didn’t relate to one another. In the end, I decided to go with the mobile phone, the digital camera, and the e-reader. McLuhan’s concept of hot and cool media can be applied to these devices, along with his 4 laws of media.Â
