After reading the piece I think the reason Johnny can’t dissent is obvious. The corporations that we would want to rebel against are actually encouraging us to do so. We want to be ourselves to fight the system but the system is creating commercials that tell us to explore our individuality. It becomes very evident when the list of corporate slogans is listed. They all have to do with going down your own path and not following a crowd. We view corporations as the place where drones work, where everyone wears the “gray flannel suit” as is mentioned. But then we have these companies telling us to not listen to the higher powers. Johnny can’t dissent because he’s being led down the path of rebellion by those he wants to rebel against.
