Liam Galvin

Hi everyone, my name is Liam Galvin. My pronouns are he/him. I am born and raised on Long Island. I am majoring in entertainment technology and look forward to learning more about this industry. Outside of school, I have played football for most of my life. Now that my football days are over, I am pursuing training in boxing. I also skateboard for hours daily, and I am looking forward to skating around Brooklyn after my classes. Music is another big part of my life as not a day goes by where I don’t listen to it. In my opinion there is nothing more therapeutic than listening to music. I am looking forward to school but in all honesty I am terrified of this new environment. I am a very friendly person and find it very easy to get along with people but it is definitely intimidating going into this new environment alone. I’m going to have to practice my time management skills to balance school, skateboarding, lifting, boxing, and work, which will be nothing short of difficult but I’m up to the challenge. I am also a huge Star Wars and superhero nerd.

The sunsets at my usual skatepark are really something to look at. On days where I don’t feel like skating as much I’ll usually say to myself, hey at least I can catch the sunset, and that is enough to motivate me to go skate. You can also see the Manhattan skyline from the skatepark and that especially looks amazing with the flaming sky.

    Liam,
Wonderful writing here– I especially appreciate your mention of the sunset motivation to skate, and the characterization of the sky as flaming. Thanks for sharing your anxiety about online classes; I am sure you are not alone in this. I think all of us– students, profs, staff, admin– are acclimating to this new normal. Know that I am here to work with you all and we’ll get through it together.
