Introductions: we do it all of the time; there are different strategies (question, anecdote, quote, title/author, other?); in newspaper articles, it is common to talk a lot about the first sentence of the article, which is referred to as the “lede”

Thesis Statements: A concise statement of the argument you present in your essay; at the end of your introduction; main idea; they are hard to write sometimes and therefore you always revise them last; start with a draft thesis statement and revise revise edit revise edit edit; the are conversation starters:  and therefore are NOT statements of fact, but instead, are propositions; what are some interesting/exciting models of thesis statements?  Let’s look at them!!!!!!!; Questions can be thesis statements, but thesis statements will not always be questions;

Introduce your   topic and the argument you are making about it
Read your thesis statement

I believe the three things that would make this college better are:

fixing the elevators
building a gym

cleaning the bathrooms

I am not criticizing or saying that the college right now is in bad shape, but I just feel that with some improvements the college experience at City Tech would become more enjoyable: add a gym, fix the elevators, improve the staff

Arguments:  “Because, because, because, because…”

Genre:  Fiction/Nonfiction; Stories/Essays
