My avatar and bio

The avatar that I have chosen is an image that was made by myself. It is a character that I created and drew. I felt that the character represented myself. The image shows a person walking up a staircase. Although it may be hard to tell because the image had to be cropped for the upload, you may be able to see that the person is coming from an area that is surrounded by flames but is ascending to a better place. The person is not perfect, which is why there is a Devil on the left and an angel on the right side of his head. These are representative of the thoughts that he has. The image is supposed to represent progression and elevation. It may look strange but the number 47 is located on the person’s bag. It is intended to represent the 4th primary chakra the heart, and the 7th primary chakra the crown. It is a representation of balance , as 4 is an even number and 7 is an odd number. The image is inspired by the ideas and concepts of the late rapper Capital steez. Capital steez was someone that always was focused on the progression of people and being better than what one was before . I am passionate about concepts like these. I am also very passionate about music. The image that I created was inspired an artist.

Avatar, Project 2

In open lab, I’d uploaded one of my favorite sketched anime character as my avatar because I’m proving that I have a lot of passion and potential to draw what I am great with fine details. I’m proving that I want to learn and improve more than I am now and I’m seeking for perfection to make a difference of my drawing. My style of drawing is related to Japanese cartoon art (anime) and for my personal philosophy and aesthetic, I think that my interest of anime is what drove me into their art of style.

Besides my interest in anime, I’m also very interested about the Japanese culture and I would like to travel there one day because I want to experience the reality of Japan, its lifestyle (compare in the anime/ manga) and get to know its people (would be nice to make some friends). Most of all, Japan seem to be very familiar with anime and I think I’ll have the advantage to find more opportunities rather than the United State because there are lots of jobs that require experiences in animation design and other, therefore I believe that my career will be well fitting for these jobs in Japan.

My interest of anime comes along with the major I’m taking as well as my avatar. I want to show and share at the same time of what people might think about me and demonstrate what I am capable of doing to reach to the future. I choose this picture of a anime female figure holding some type of food because I want to compare and see what makes me different compare to the other avatar from other classmates in my perspective and maybe if someone have that same interest as mine, he/she can reach up to me and we can share our comparisons and differences between each other. You’ll never know what other people may have that same interest and I can possibly meet many people and this can help me move on during my college year. Sharing our interest is great feedback to learn from it and make differences than what we were before.

As you can see this avatar has a surprise expression (telling from the stars shining through her eyes) and a combination of curiosity. It’s very fitting for me  to use this character because curiosity is also part of my personality and I like to experience something new and never done or seen before. For instance, I like experimenting with music on my piano and I though of play a different instrument that I never get to play and I had my thoughts of playing a guitar so  I decided to get myself a electric guitar and test it out. Before I got the guitar, I had this app on my phone that can play many different instrument (Garage Band) and it had a guitar solo play and bass guitar. I didn’t know a lot about the mechanism or how does it work or play it, so I decided to try it on my phone with the app and try to compare it with the piano. Musicians says that mastering the piano can give up the advantage of playing others. instruments and I absolutely agree on that. As soon, as I got my guitar, little by little I started to learn and understand the mechanism of the guitar and with  practice I finally had the hang of it, I’m still currently learning and I manage to play some parts of a song that I listen and play on piano. My curiosity is what describes me most ( depending of my personality) and I think is very fitting to put an anime character with a curious expression as my avatar.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

Ambiguous figure/ground relationship
Stable figure/ground relationship

This project has thought me many things. I learned about the difference between geometric and organic shapes. I learned a lot about positive and negative space and how they correlate to stable and ambiguous figure/ground relationships. This project has thought me the importance of positive and negative space and the different aspects they convey. When you have a Stable figure/ground relationship, you are likely trying to draw the audience attention to the figure, with an ambiguous figure/ground relationship, you are making the audience choose there own view on what is the figure, what’s the ground. These are something I will take into account in future projects or art pieces.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

This project was very different and interesting from any other art projects I’ve done. The whole process was a little stressful for me because it took such a long time and a lot of steps but it was good to see my final product and my classmates’ final products. I did learn how to visually achieve ambiguous and stable compositions, which I think a lot of other people achieved, I just don’t think I achieved that. However, I was fine with going into class to present my final compositions and getting the constructive criticism that I did. Now that I know what to do for upcoming projects, like posting everything and trying to rework certain things, which I look forward to future projects.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

It’s wasn’t the most challenging project that I’ve done nor I didn’t take it very serious, but I did have a bit of fun and I’ve learned a lot besides drawing such as describing the part of a drawing and understand its meaning of a figure. I could’ve done better if I added a little more for my ambiguous sketch by taking that small figure, converted into a larger figure and draw it on the extra space that I had left. If I have done it, then my perspective of my drawing would’ve been better and consider that as a challenge.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

My thoughts on this project are that it was fun, I enjoyed and like the final look of what I’ve done for the project, yes it took different steps and a longer time period but it was a fun process. What I’ve learned would be the difference between ambiguous and stable drawing along with the elements it needs to be considered one or the other or any details that can be added to it. To the criticism I recieved on the project, making the lines a bit thicker would be best in changing of the artwork and something I would keep in mind for the next project and consider its effect it can have on what I do in future projects.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

After the criticism i received from class, i needed to make these two pictures relate to each other. By doing that i took the circle from the stable figure and added it to the ambiguous figure. With the circle, the ambiguous figure looks like something spilled and covered up the 40. From what i learn from the critics, for the upcoming projects i will use figures that are able to relate to each other.

I learned that a stable figure can still be interesting with good composition and scale. This project reminds me of a stencil project I did back in high school and detail didn’t matter there. A stable figure is a 30/70 while an ambiguous is almost a 50/50 when it comes to background and figure. What I could have done better was made it more of a solid black until the marker strokes disappeared. I will bring this into my next project by attempting to work slower and more accurate.

Avatar [Revised]

My interest in art began this April 2018. This caused me to begin taking art more seriously as a potential profession or something that I would like to work on and improve gradually. My favorite colors are mint and lime. My rule for myself is to be forgiving to others and to believe in the possibility that anyone can change because they have the free will to do so.

My passion for art takes form as both digital and watercolor style. I like to invest my time in backgrounds and pixel art. I draw with colorful pastel colors to saturated colors depending on my mood. Throughout my years of experiencing various video games, I was inspired to aim to become a concept designer. My goal in five to ten years is to have a portfolio with various art pieces that could be used for game design. Throughout college, I hope to achieve a degree of some sort.

My avatar is a white bird and I chose a bird avatar to represent simplicity because generally it is white and round which is easy to draw and people can easily distinguish that it is a bird. The white color represents purity which reflects me as a person because I always have a pure intention when saying things or doing things and I try my best not to harm others. The idea of being harmless is embedded in this image as a cute small bird.

My icon can be misinterpreted as someone who likes birds. One can misinterpret it as someone who wants to be away from society because birds tend to fly away when people come. A majority of people may misinterpret me as a biology major or aiming for an ornithologist career. My aesthetic in art, however, is generally colorful images that utilize pastel colors. This bird is white and light grey and it falls under a tint which I personally find beautiful. My profile picture could possibly guide people towards what I find interesting when they could assume I draw in a cute style or that I like small animals. The way that the bird is perched on a branch and may seem to be watching your every move might cause people to feel a little unsettling represents me, but I tend to watch people so that I don’t end up confused when everyone else is working.

Overall I hoped this bird would convey that I’m friendly and this matters especially when getting to know people because I don’t want people to automatically assume my personality based on the things I may say or my gestures in class. The first impression always matters, but I tend to always look comfortable in class so people may assume that I might be demotivated or tired. Since I do most of my work on Open lab people will see my icon more than they see me in class because I tend to go straight home after class is over. So I’m hoping that when people see the bird they might think that I’m just there kind of like how the bird is framed in the picture standing on a branch. I want my profile picture to be interpreted as a person that comes and goes, watches what’s going on before going to the next assignment, and flying away.

I expect my avatar to develop as I meet new people who maybe share the same interests as me so I can get more specific with my image. As of now, I’m not that comfortable sharing my interest or rather I don’t have anything I’m specifically interested in which caused me to pick an animal I liked. Hopefully with the updated avatar after a few classes, I would be able to successfully convey my skill in the arts by uploading a picture of a piece I’m really proud of or representing a group that I fit in and am apart of.
