Elicited

verb

“to call forth or draw out (something, such as information or a response)” Merriam-Webster dictionary

The sentence this word was encountered was “How better photos can help you document, and shape, your neighborhood” by Patrick Sisson

The sentence this word was used in is “Part of the beauty of this book is that it was written at a time when smartphone photography is getting better and more common and relevant. It really works well with the book’s focus on crowdsourced and elicited photography. ”

The author used this word to talk about how he takes photos or what he looks for in a photo. In the section before he’s describing how he chooses the images he takes and reveals that he normally takes photos from Paris. Because Paris has a lot of history and old buildings and also because it’s popular for one thing one can argue that maybe people don’t notice the changes happening in Paris which then brings photography to reveal things that aren’t normally seen. This can give us information, or a better look at what Paris is like through daily life and neighborhood is like.

10/10 Project #3: Juxtaposition

The first and second image was taken in the Korean War Veterans Park (address: 277 Cadman Plz , Brooklyn, NY 11201) and it’s a 5 minutes walk from City Tech to this park. To get to this destination from City Tech is first it’s recommend exiting from the Pearl Building, next make a left until reaching Johnson St then make a right to Cadman Plz W and the park is on your right. This is a memorial park for the veterans that fought during the Korean War and pretty much there’s trees covering from the sun, pigeons everywhere on the grass land and people sitting on the benches. It’s pretty empty because since it’s a ceremony for the veterans, it deserves to have some space and respect. In the first image, it is a pole that has a sign on the bottom saying “To Honor All Who Served Korean War 1950-1953.” The second image is similar to the previous image and it’s a sign that pretty much says the same quote with more details which is actually right in front of each other from a close distance.  I decided to choose these two images and identify them as a juxtaposition because both images are signs that relate to the atmosphere of the park and share the same perspective.

Project 2: Avatar

Hello, my name is Veronica.  My major is Communication Designs, and I am specifically in this major for photography. The reason why I chose this painting by a famous New York City artist Jackson Pollock because I love the idea behind it. It’s chaotic with no thoughts or idea. It’s almost like the artist didn’t plan it, it just happen. He wasn’t thinking or contemplating. He allowed his hand to guide him and which that, this master piece as been made. I like how this art shows there’s no rule or order. That the artist didn’t have focus on a subject or object and just simple copy it.

It came from his imagination where something was going to be different. This shows my personality where I am a rebel. I don’t go by society expectations. This kind of imperfection that wasn’t meant to be perfect, but came out to be in a sort of way. My ideas and how I think is kind of what the painting shows what goes inside my head. These lines with no direction or pattern, almost unpredictable. That you never know what to expect, but you know it’s going to be huge. It’s like this explosion of ideas, like when people have a light bulb that lights up.

For photography, I take pictures of architecture and other objects where it will be just some random thing I have encounter. the relationship between the this painting and the pictures I take is that there’s isn’t a rule to follow and gender. I like the idea of a gender less artwork.  In 10 years since it’s more time to think about my future, I’m going to have my own place with a lot of photography equipment. I either will be a traveling photographer because I always wanted to see the world, and why not combine the two things I love and have it as my job, or a freelance photographer where it’s anything I want to take pictures of while telling a story.

As for the painting itself, I chose this particular one because not just of the amazing colors scheme that has been used, but also for the movement of the lines. It doesn’t follow a path, each line is on their own, but also the shapes that is form that is organic and natural than geometric and sharp. It’s almost like with each new line form, they all were made with different emotions which i believe represents me because my emotions ranges and changes by a second so I thought how the movement of it shows that.. Meanwhile, others with a different perspective or point of view may misinterpret that painting as me into artwork, particularly painting by itself, or that the colors are dark, so I am a sad, depressed, or angry person which is all false since the artist himself was an angry man who smoked.

Artistically the artwork speaks me because my favorite is splatter paintings, but I do like paintings in general compare to   any other artwork that I have encounter throughout my life. As for my bio itself, I just gave the simple information on what major  I am in and that’s it, since I know if I keep going on about myself, it will be to long and lose interest so I keep it blank since I also like  to be a mystery to people. There is not much to say now about my avatar and how it relates to me as a designer. However, I do have to say that the artist and me share some similarity, but are mostly opposite from each other. If I had to recreate his work into my own master piece, I will focus on  my mood and what I feel to help direct my hand since the paining will be based off of each feeling as if they are their own person.

Avatar Bio

The avatar that I chose was a little cute monster screaming and the reason that I chose that is because I feel like it represents me in a way. I say that because people would usually think that I’m very quiet because I talk low or I either don’t say a lot, but once you get to know me I’m a whole different person. I like to tell jokes and always say what I think.

One trait that guided me to my goals would be that I am somewhat of an innovator. I like to take things and redesign it in my own way. It could be drawing, music, etc. When I look at things my brain just fired off ways that could make it somewhat better or more useful. I could be watching a tv show and in my head I’m thinking “this actor should play her” or “it should be taken place in this place”. Any idea that I have I feel like it should be taken into account somehow they are very valuable.

I am very passionate about success and my music, even though I’m just now starting to do music I feel like it could take me somewhere. Everything I do I just feel like I need to be successful in it. Even though sometimes it looks like I’m not doing anything and being lazy. I’m usually taking this time to think and see if there’s anything that I could be doing better. I feel like my thoughts are very special because twice in my life I have thought if something and then later on in life I see it happening on the big screen. Ever since then I have just been brainstorming ideas, and some of them I have been writing down just in case.

In 5 years I could see myself working with a major or even small movie company. When agreeing to this major I seen myself working for Disney or to even be in a internship with them. In 10 years I see myself working on films with popular movie companies. One of my biggest goals is to work on one of the marvel movies. Either co produce or even direct one myself.

Finishing Project #2

My name is Brianna Maldonado, currently enrolled in City Tech and majored in the study of Communication Design. I’ve always loved the way things have been designed for the public, like when you see movie posters or advertisements in the subway and I got really into it when I entered high school. Even though it is something I would love to do in my future, my passions and things I enjoy the most are reading, writing, and watching movies. Ever since I was little I would always be reading and once I learned how to write stories or even argumentative essays I would enjoy doing it. Watching films or breaking down films has also been a passion for me because each one has its own story and their own way of expressing it. I always had this personal philosophy that you should always do what makes you the happiest, even if it’s not something you would want to do as a career, you can have it as a hobby. My hobby of watching films all the time, introduced me to looking at advertisements and even the movie posters. I became so curious on how they would pick a particular design to capture the audience’s attention or just random people passing by in subways or in any public setting. That’s also how my personality is too, I like to keep myself open minded to different interests because I don’t think I can only enjoy doing one thing, and sticking to one thing. That’s how my aesthetic is, always trying to see the brighter side to a situation or a different point of view, I’m always trying to be optimistic because I don’t wanna waste my time thinking negatively. Making others laugh or smile is something I add to my personal philosophy because I think you should treat people the way you want to be treated, and you never know when someone is having a rough day so be that person that can make it a little better. So even though I might have my rough days because of my loadwork for school my goals for college is to really push myself to keep my grades up and to not underestimate myself to get a Bachelor’s degree. In 5 to 10 years I want to be traveling, teaching abroad and here in the States because I always felt like I was good with explaining myself and teaching others.

My avatar is a cartoon version of myself which is to represent how I look, and also the tiny cartoon version of myself is also a little humorous because people realize how much it does look like me. I didn’t want to put anything specific about my major or my passions represented in my avatar because I don’t think that truly represents me. My personality and aesthetic is something I say truly represents me. I wouldn’t want to change it now that I’ve explained what my passions are and what I enjoy to do. My avatar has orange-reddish hair in a little afro, green glasses, some hoop earrings, and a yellow shirt with some blue little pants. So, basically this avatar looks exactly like me because I have my hair like that all the time. My glasses are green, and I’m always usually wearing earrings because I love accessories. If I wanted to change my avatar, I would change it to a particular movie poster maybe because it doesn’t just show my love for movies but for design as well.

Overall my profile I think completes me because I wanted to show what I think means the most to know about me. My passions and my personal philosophy is something I want people to read to get me and my avatar is something I want to represent something else. I think it’s going to definitely develop by the time I get my degree, and get a better sense of what I would want to do in 5 to 10 years. I want to see how people or professors see how much my profile might change once I finish my first year of college.

My avatar and bio

The avatar that I have chosen is an image that was made by myself. It is a character that I created and drew. I felt that the character represented myself. The image shows a person walking up a staircase. Although it may be hard to tell because the image had to be cropped for the upload, you may be able to see that the person is coming from an area that is surrounded by flames but is ascending to a better place. The person is not perfect, which is why there is a Devil on the left and an angel on the right side of his head. These are representative of the thoughts that he has. The image is supposed to represent progression and elevation. It may look strange but the number 47 is located on the person’s bag. It is intended to represent the 4th primary chakra the heart, and the 7th primary chakra the crown. It is a representation of balance , as 4 is an even number and 7 is an odd number. The image is inspired by the ideas and concepts of the late rapper Capital steez. Capital steez was someone that always was focused on the progression of people and being better than what one was before . I am passionate about concepts like these. I am also very passionate about music. The image that I created was inspired an artist.

Avatar and bio final

For my avatar i chose a character form an anime known as naruto.  So basically the character that i picked goes by the name of shikamaru. So in this anime, Shikamaru is this really intelligent guy that seems to think differently in an out of the box way from everybody else. Although very comprehensive and intelligent, He lacks work ethic and tends to find easy ways or does a lazy version of works given to him or works that are mandatory. In this particular anime, characters have great power abilities and and fighting arts. In shikamaru’s case, his powers are powerful but not as powerful as his peers but what really sets him apart and makes him superior to his peers is his ability to outsmart and make his opponents/does look silly.

I chose shikamaru because i felt as if me and him have great relation in terms of mindset and habits. I wouldn’t really consider myself to be a lazy guy but, i try to put myself in situations that have an rewarding outcome but that also requires less effort than most things to achieve the goals i have. When it comes to mindset, i consider myself to be more creative with a hint of intelligence. The thing that me and my avatar have alike is that we both think things through before making a decision and we also don’t act on impulse most of the time. To be honest i have no type of idea what i’m passionate about but, then again it is what it is.

As a person I feel as if I have the potential to be great. The feeling of uncertainty is a huge mystery but in a way also stressful and unpredictable. I want to be productive in the future but not be working a 9-5 job. I like the feeling of having a social life. It’s true that a social life can be formulated through careers but there’s only so much you can talk about at work. The social life I want is more of a work-life balance, and also being close to my friends and my loved ones. Knowing the type of person i am, I tend to heed others opinions but I also know what not do do. I feel as if I want to be successful I would have to take risk. I can’t be a regular person, it’s more than just a future for me. Whatever I end up doing I hope that career pays well and that it makes me satisfied. Everyone knows that an unpredictable life is dangerous, but I somewhat love it and hate it at the same time because the rush is amazing. I just want to be stable and be able to say I succeeded and keep on moving forward.

Finished project#2

Hey there! My name is Garance Lynch, I am a student at New York City College of Technology and I major in Communications Design. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been interested in art in general. At school art class was always my favorite class. I was always very imaginative and drew anything that came to mind, art made me feel free. The art I’m particularly interested in now is digital art and street art. I have a passion for drawing and illustrating. I’m a burger guy, I really love cheeseburgers. I love to hang out with friends with no family, play video games, watch movies, anime, and listen to music. I consider myself to be an outgoing person. I think it’s great to meet new people and make new friends. My personal philosophy is to “Do you”, do what makes you happy, do what you love and to never let anyone tell you otherwise. This personal philosophy that I follow basically encourages open-mindedness. I feel it’s important to do what makes you feel happy, comfortable, and free. I hope to one day become a Graphic Designer or Marketing Designer. Before I can even think of my career, I am focused on getting great grades in college and eventually graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree.
The Avatar I chose was one of many murals created by a street artist Called Buff Monster. I chose this as my Avatar because it reflects on my interest in Street art. The mural contains different bright colored, funny looking monster characters. This art corporate a lot of humor, imagination, and creativity all aspects I feel have. In his art pieces he uses a lot of bold, long flowing organic lines and organic shapes, and warm colors such as green, pink, orange , and yellow, that really pop and grab your attention, this gives off a really fun, exciting, and chill vibe, all characteristics I feel can be used to describe me.

Although I feel the image I chose  as my Avatar does a great job at depicting who I am and what my intrest are, there are a few things people might misinterpret when looking at my Avatar. One misinterpretation people might have is that I major in illustrations instead of communication design.  People might be confused by this because of  the goofy characters seen in the image. People might also think that I want to become an professional illustrator, a career where I can create my own characters . As cool as that would be, it’s not something I want to pursue. As I said in my bio, I would like to one day pursue a career in graphic design or marketing design. These are some misinterpretations some people might make when viwevie my avatar.
After I completed my profile, I felt as though I did a great job at conveying what kind of person I am. My profile talks about the things I like and love, It talks about the things I care about, and the things I’m passionate about. I also feel that my profile conveys personality very well. I feel I wrote enough information to give people an idea of what kind of guy I am. When creating this profile I admit it was pretty hard, it’s not really easy to talk about myself, but for the most part, I feel that I wrote about who I am truthfully am, instead of trying to write about what people want to hear. I hope people like the person I am and maybe we can become friends. I hope that people can get a clear idea on what type of person I am, I also hope that this profile can help attract many creative artistic people with similar intrests and Ideas.
