$18,000 in Scholarship Awards!
In an effort to stimulate the interest of students in solid waste management and related fields, and to support colleges and universities that offer curriculum or courses in solid waste management and related fields, the ASME Materials & Energy Recovery Division (MER Division) offers a scholarship program with awards totaling $18,000. The scholarship award amounts will be divided equally shared between the winning student and his or her school, with the school receiving $1,000 out of each award amount stated below.

Size and shape of shredded municipal solid waste (MSW) have not been analyzed in detail, except a means of sieving. This analysis of size and shape is important because pre-shredding the MSW enhances the productivity of combustion process in Waste-to-energy (WTE) combustion chambers. In this research, Image and Cluster analysis was carried out in order to create a particle size distribution (PSiD) and particle shape distribution (PShD) of shredded MSW. These distributions can be applied to a mathematical model for developing a new combustion chamber.
