Hello,
10 years ago, before I got into the dental field, I was always interested in hands-on work such as drawing, embroidery and even sculpting. As a matter of fact, back in middle school, I used to attend an after school pottery program. I made flower pots out of clay with my hands. It was so messy! But, I loved the process of creating it with your hands. The art classes I had in middle school were just as amazing! I loved to work with paint and brushes; the thinner the brush, the better.
A friend of mine asked me one day if I want to try a Dental Assistant job, I said okay. The moment I got into dentistry, I knew this was it. I knew, I found myself! As the days went by I learned more and more each day, but I wanted to work on the patients myself. That’s when I decided to go to school to become a Licensed Dental Assistant. After, working for many years as a dental assistant working on the patient, I found I still craved more, it still was not enough. I wanted to do more than just a few extended functions. I started to slowly lose my interest in assisting but I still liked dentistry. A few doctors who I worked with for a while suggested Dental Hygiene school. I decided to observe the Hygienist and I liked what I saw. A Dental Hygienist “treats” the patients by working on the them, educating them on oral health and preventing gum disease. Treating the patient is the key because you see how you help the patient by working on their chief complaint.
Now, here I am completing my last semester of Dental Hygiene school.
Looking forward for the years of Dental Hygiene career !!
