NUR 4130 Professional Nursing Practice – Spring 2015

Currently, it is appropriate to say that nurses practice in an environment where there is a stress between providing care or routine procedures, a true irony or contradiction in terms.  The nursing shortage, demands for accuracy in documentation, diversity in the workforce and patients are some of the circumstances that nurses face on a daily basis which can detract from providing patient-centered care.  However, what the movie Wit teaches us is that the nurses are able to cut through all of the mechanics and get down to the basic need of most patients who are in hospitals, reassurance of their value and dignity as human beings.  In Wit, the nurse simply provided the patient with kindness and understanding, redeeming qualities that can bring peace and acceptance.
