Lack of Data and Research

Most appliances were designed for their specific purpose, but the manufacturers did in take into account people of different backgrounds. Basically, there was a lack of research into people of different backgrounds, and as a result, we don’t have any data for the design phase for these appliances. Two people, by the name of Garmin and Everion, have spoken that PPG data may not be accurate towards darker skinned people. We have scientists, such as Joy Buolamwini, questioning if artificial intelligence, or AI, could detect people of dark complexions and genders. She experimented with an AI, and found out that the system did not recognize her, based on her skin color and gender.
