Diversifying employees and researching skin tones

When making facial recognition technology, there aren’t a lot of darker skinned people to test beta versions of facial recognition systems. Most of the tests are done on white people, which results in the algorithm being biased as a result, since the data isn’t diverse. If it were more diverse and had the same amount of testing as lighter skinned people, then the issue that darker skinned people go through with facial recognition technology would be resolved. Therefore, STEM students of different backgrounds should be hired and business should aim to have a more diverse workplace, by hiring people of different backgrounds. This allows them to take part in the research and development phase of certain technologies.
