When it comes to facial recognition technology, darker skinned people and Asians have problems with this type technology, as artificial intelligence, especially in facial recognition, rely on machine-learning algorithms, “trained” on sample datasets. As a result, if black people are not represented in the datasets, they are less likely to have their faces detected. There isn’t a ton of darker skinned people to test certain versions of facial recognition systems, and as a result, comes across as discriminatory.
