Assignment 4 Modular Form

Revisiting The Modular Form

The Modular Form exists everywhere. We see examples of it in our home, our community, in nature and in ourselves.

For your project to be successful it must utilize a Unit Form that is repeated and an Axis which may be visible or invisible.

Unit Forms may be found or constructed by you. Their repetition may vary in size, location in the space, rotation, color, and texture. Remember the exercise we did in class of shape /tonality. The square rotated from its first location along a corner until it became balanced on its point.

An Axis is another way to think of composition only in this class it is not along a flat 2D surface but exists in real space and sometimes invisible. When we looked at Brancusi’s Endless Column, we saw the Unit Form of the Octahedron repeated along a Vertical Axis hidden within the hollow steel shape.

Student responses to this project can be seen on the Open Lab. I have chosen Ron’s  3D Color Wheel of Cubes as my avatar for our new site.
