Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

I don’t know how to provide links to the other phases but overall the project wasn’t to bad in terms of time. I finished it pretty easily but next time I have to take more care with the inking pens because I noticed tons of streaking in my inked compositions.

Color Interaction Pairings: Phase 4

This project was a great experience! The idea of comparing colors on top of each other, as found out through learning about Josef Albers’ studies. Albers’ studies were then converted into an iPad app, and from the presentation I watched in Phase 1, the app proves to educate future artists about the interaction of colors. Through Phase 2, we learned how to turn one color into two through the use of an interaction between different colors.

Phase 3 was fun to work on, especially when bouncing ideas off of a partner. Through an interview with my partner, I learned how to emulate an idea through the use of color and personifying the color by comparing it to a personality.

Saturation Studies: Phase 4

This was an excellent learning experience. I had so much fun with the coloring with paints, mixing to get the correct values of hues, and I even subconsciously separated my laundry in order of the color wheel. I really loved each part of this project, I’m literally seeing different shades everywhere.

In Phase 1, I got mad I ran out of paint because I was so into the project, that I didn’t wanna stop.

Phase 2 was tricky to my eyes because between the chromatic grays and the muted colors I couldn’t remember which was which, and the lighting in my room made it look pretty identical, but then I saw the lighter values in the muted pieces compared to the chromatic grays.

Thank you, again—to my partner—Ebony, for working with me on Phase 3. This style finally has a name I can place; I’ve seen the swiss style before in movies and noticed it in polaroid label packages. I LOVED THIS PHASE!!! I’m going to print this and hang it on my wall.

I’ve learned no matter how old I get glue and paint always manages to get all over my hands; I’ll be more careful in the future. This project has opened my eyes to new colors, new vocabulary, and new styles. I want to do a LOT more of this type of project.

Saturation Studies: Phase 4

Overall this project was really cool. It was interesting seeing how color actually works and how they mix together to creat new shades and hues.

Saturation Studies: Phase 3

Excited to work with color, I dove right into the color wheel phase. In the next phase I experimented with pure prismatic hues, mixed with complementary hues to form different hues of chromatic grays. To lighten to chromatic grays I added white. Figuring out the ratio of how much prismatic/complementary colors to combine was difficult and took alot of experimenting.  In the next phase I had to execute muted an prismatic hues. I used the pure primary colors red, blue, and yellow to make secondary, and tertiary hues.  This was really easy and fun to do. Making the muted broad range/broad hue collage I added white to saturate the hues. Contrast was created with saturation.  Mounting all of the collages wasn’t difficult at all. With past projects, I learned to use my eye an create a composition that is unified and  flows together. Focusing on the broad range and the values of all the hues I was able to compose collages I was really proud of. The group part of this project I enjoyed the most. Using two cross sensory words and the cool temperature colors me and my partner picked, we had to create a poster for a band name. We  chose the Lush poster template. We came up with periwinkle, and violets because they give off a sense of relaxation an calmness. I chose some blues to coincide with my cool temperature of violets. Using our 5 senses, we agreed on many sensory words that would mesh well with cool temperatures.  We came up with our leading band name “Silky Glaciers” with or runners up bands being “Breezy Mints” and “Tangy Waves”. My partner mentioned Europe, and we jumped at the opportunity to base or location at a awesome club in Germany called the “Mojo Club”.  I look at all colors a little bit differently now. Thinking more into how I’m perceived to see color with the help of the primary hues.

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 4

Overall this project has been a great learning experience for me never in my life have I looked carefully at a photo and really examine it to see that all those whites, blacks, and grays are different shades of each other and that even the smallest change in shade makes it a new color. I’ve never really painted before so that was the most challenging part of this project for me but it was fun to sit down and really study these colors and try to match what was in my collage, I look forward to learning more about color.

Grey has never looked more grey in my life. I’m glad I don’t see in only grey.

This is how you know artists are crazy; IT’S ALL GREY!!!

Wow!! Lemme put this one white little spot here and make everything else dark! We’ll call that lowkey. Flip it around and that’s highkey! And since their focal point is all alone, it’s a narrow spectrum.

Hold on, what if it’s mixed up of all the greys, you ask? That’s broad spectrum.

It’s all grey to me.

Value-Added Phase 4

Value Added Portraits: Phase 1

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 2

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 3

This project taught me that high key and low key predominately broad range and narrow range values create a sense of moods. High key elements create a brighter more happier mood. Low key elements create a darker melancholy mood. I used elements of different scaled squares of a portrait of myself and made collages. In all four collages I used my hair to emphasize movement. My hair was also my focal points in all my collages.  It was very interesting using a photo of myself to create collages with movement an moods. All collages ended up with a figure/ground relationship with dark hues in forming two different ranges. My broad range is chromatic with hues of black, white, and gray. My narrow range is achromatic , focusing more on mostly white and grayscale elements.

Sound Visualization: Phase 4

When it came to animating my mashup I thought to myself how certain thing would move around the page and fade in and out. I decided to have my staccato patterns bounce around the page to represent that staccato feel and I decided to make my legato patterns slowly fade in and out to represent a more calmer feel. The two songs I chose were Shockandawe by Miguel (staccato) and Can’t Bring this Down by Bridget Mendler ft Pell (legato). In my animation I worked on trying to get the music to match up to what was happening on screen and I feel like it somewhat does.

Time spent on animation 3 hours.
