Ambiguous Photo

This image is organic with the different brush strokes and stone textures showing though. There is no definite figure to ground relationship. It just all seem to be one thing while still being different from itself. This piece is ambiguous because it doesnā€™t just showcase one single thing. It shows different textures and shapes and strokes.

Unfinished paint jobs seem to be a pretty common occurrence in New York, but this one just stood out. Perhaps the blue was just too much for the painter to handle because mid brush stroke they just stopped working. They couldnā€™t get themselves to finish such a paint job because they knew it would to something they could never truly change back. Them standing there, paintbrush in hand, wondering if this is how they should be going about all of this. Wondering if this is the blue that they would allow to change everything. Either that or the paint ran out and the realized too late just how expensive paint is.

This image is organic in the way that the curl bunches together and separates from itself. The figure seems to be off of the ground. It doesnā€™t seem to go with the backgrounds flow at all. This piece is stable in the sense that you could tell that the curl is the center of attention.

A young bored student sits in the class in their confined chair. They arenā€™t trying to come off uninterested they just arenā€™t used to this kinda environment yet. Theyā€™re used to moving at their own pace and being able to rest on a couch or bed every second of the day. But donā€™t worry, because Iā€™m sure the young student is working on being more time efficient and focused.

The shapes in this picture are organic because there is no definite form to it. The figure to ground relationship is sorta blended or fused. The pinkish red coloring is now a part of the concrete. The picture is also ambiguous. You canā€™t necessarily tell which one is the focal point of the picture.

It was a day like any other, or was it? You see today was the day that everything changed. The Williams were getting ready to paint their fence. The went against the social standard of black fences and decided to go bold and stand out from the rest of the block. They were gonna paint their fence red! The rest of the block didnā€™t like that idea very much. They started to riot up against the Williams. As a result of their frustrations, the citizens threw bleach at the fence causing the paint to splash off onto the concrete, thus creating the pink splatter we see to this day.

I feel that this picture is pretty geometric with how one directional the pipes are. The figure to (back)ground relationship is not that obvious. I tried to make it blend as one. I felt that the photo was ambiguous, but now Iā€™m kinda feeling that itā€™s stable.

Leftover pipes leaning against the building without ever being touched again. Nobody really understands why they must leave the pipes to rust up, but there isnā€™t much that could get done now. The pipes are too rusted to ever get used again or used for the first time. So there they lie, to stay and get rustier till a vine comes along and makes the pipes one with the earth.

Stable Photo

This picture is pretty organic with the way the gum looks thrown down as opposed to placed on the ground. The figure to ground relationship is trying to be connected while also trying break free from being stuck to the ground permanently. I tried to make this picture stable with the piece of gum as the focal point.

Obnoxious green gum stuck on the ground probably chewed up and spat out by an obnoxious girl. I imagine her on her way to someplace she thinks is so important as sheā€™s on the phone thinking that sheā€™s talking about something profound. She speaking as loudly as her vocal cords would allow, talking about, ā€œIā€™m 28 and I just realized Iā€™m out of both tampons and clean underwear.ā€ All the other annoyed passers by witness as the obnoxious lady spits out her disgusting piece of wet gum and cram another fresh piece in.

I would say that this picture (the gummy worm picture) is both organic and geometric. Iā€™d say organic because of the way the worm curves, but Iā€™d also say geometric because the worm is meant to curve & bend it looks to make more of an angle kinda shape. The figure to ground is as the ground was a pedestal for the gummy worm. This photo is stable; the focal point is the gummy worm.

Spotted from across the way was a dreadful scene. Two children, who appeared to be siblings, were fighting. Arguing over who should get the gummy worms all to themselves. The older man, assumingly their father, was clearly frustrated with the constant bickering. He let the children know that they need to learn to handle disputes on their own. So the children did the only way they know how; physical confrontation. Back and forth, brother vs brother, they tugged for the jar of candy until the whole thing flew out of their little hands and all over the concrete. The father simply looked down and said, ā€œits what you deserve for not learning how to shareā€. And they all climbed into the car and drove off.
