Phillip K Dick’s “We can remember it for you wholesale” is a story about deciding whether or not you want to live a life you never experienced rather than the one that you’re used to. Our main character Douglas has the dream of visiting mars and is willing to sacrifice his own memories in order to achieve this dream. During the process of doing this it’s revealed that Douglas has actually been to mars before and as a result of this dream there are agents assigned to take him out because is isn’t supposed to remember the life he’s had before sacrificing for these new memories. Another plot twist is that he tries to have more fake memories implemented but it’s learned that those are also memories that he’s actually had.

The story is ended of with discovery of Douglas preventing an alien invasion due to the fact that he showed the invaders “kindness”. This becomes another thing that he has to take in and try to piece together but before he does that he still has to get rid of the agents who were sent to kill him but the other issue is that the agents know about everything that’s going on inside his head which makes his evasion from them a little bit harder.

What I believe would happen next is he uses the tactics that he remembers since he actually was one of those same agents that have been sent to kill him and while in the run he’ll also remember all the wrongs he’s done while being a against and try to make things right between him and whoever else he’s hurt during the process and shortly after that he goes into hiding which then leads to the agents finding him and he’s then forced to face them.
