Small business, family owned stores, startups, and community organizations are failing today because these organizations are failing to adapt to modern times. According to investopedia, “Data from the BLS shows that approximately 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years.” (Dean 2022).
In modern American society, the consumer is more fickle and materialistic; fashion trends for example, last for a few months, new smartphones come out every year, and there is always a new popular, healthy drink to buy. Large companies are succeeding and controlling more of the market because they can provide the consumer a product for every itch the consumer has.
Community organizations lack resources to compete with large organizations like Walmart. Small teams and a lack of capital are some of the challenges community organizations must overcome (Decker 2019). A solution to marketing and brand building challenges that community organizations face is social media.
Marketing is vital to the success of a community organization because marketing intro. Every form of marketing (word of mouth, billboards, TV commercials and ads, and social media) can help an organization grow. The most valuable marketing tool today is social media because of the outreach potential it has. Hundreds of millions of people use facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter. Mastering this tool will allow small businesses to grow and compete with corporations monopolizing a market.
Social media is a tool to foster human interaction. Social media websites like instagram, twitter, facebook, youtube, and etc are some of the most used websites today with thousands of users daily on each app.
Creating an account in these sites allow organizations to post videos, pictures, comments, music, and other forms of media to interact and inform users. Thanks to social media, users are now creating and consuming large amounts of information (Campbell).
Utilizing social media as a marketing tool is an important step to help small businesses build and attract a customer demographic. Our goal is to ensure that social media helps organizations and small businesses promote their products and services more.
